Story
Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit get a hot shot DNA connection between a recently arrested man and a serial rapist and murderer who went quiet twenty years ago. The arrested man is only twenty-four, so the genetic link must be familial: His father was the Pillowcase Rapist, responsible for a five-year reign of terror in the city of angels. But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

It’s not a Bosch novel. Ballard unlikeable
Reviewed: 2024-11-22
This isn’t a Bosch Novel. It’s all about Ballard and quite frankly, she’s unlikeable. Story solid but couldn’t bond with her…,Not the same tough grit and charisma as Bosch. Disappointing but I guess all good runs must end

Holly is great. New voice actor just OK
Reviewed: 2023-11-29
Holly Gibney is always a delight. Great story that had me engaged from start to finish. Preferred Will Payton for the voice, the new voice actor didn’t pick up her quirkiness as well. (I realize a female voice might make more sense and Holly has also evolved to be less odd, but the voice actress was so-so. Highly recommend regardless.

Book was very preachy and the worst storyline of the series. Some nice moments and a good story, nice conclusion with action, but very drawn out and in-your-face about what is right and wrong. Meh. Books went downhill from first one to this conclusion. Not terrible but not great

Story
For as long as anyone can remember, Britt-Marie has been an acquired taste. It's not that she's judgmental or fussy or difficult - she just expects things to be done in a certain way. A cutlery drawer should be arranged in the right order, for example - forks, knives, then spoons. We're not animals, are we? But behind the passive-aggressive, socially awkward, absurdly pedantic busybody is a woman who has more imagination, bigger dreams and a warmer heart than anyone around her realises.

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Now, most people have heard of ADHD and know someone who may have it. But lost in the discussion of both childhood and adult diagnosis of ADHD is the potential upside: Many hugely successful entrepreneurs and highly creative people attribute their achievements to ADHD. Also unknown to most are the recent research developments, including innovations that give a clearer understanding of the ADHD brain in action.
