About this listen
Drawing on her 30 years' experience practicing pediatric and adolescent medicine, teen health expert Dr. Meg Meeker explains why an active father figure is maybe the single most important factor in a young woman's development. In this invaluable guide, Meeker shows how a father can be both counsel and protector for his daughter as she grows into a spiritually and mentally strong young woman. From cradling his newborn to walking her down the aisle, a father must relish his paramount responsibility - guiding the course of his daughter's life.
Meeker reveals:
- How a man can become a strong father
- How a father's guidance influences every part of a woman's life, from her self-respect to her perspective on drugs, alcohol, and sex
- How to lay down ground rules that are respected without creating distance in your relationship with your daughter
- Why you need to be your daughter's hero
- The mistakes most fathers make and their serious consequences
- How to help daughters make their own good decisions and avoid disastrous mistakes
- How a father's faith will influence his daughter's spiritual development
- How to get through to your daughter, even during her toughest don't-talk-to-me years
- True stories of daughters who were on the wrong path - and how their fathers helped to bring them back

In the beginning was the loan, and the loan carried interest. For at least five millennia people have been borrowing and lending at interest. Yet as capitalism became established from the late Middle Ages onwards, denunciations of interest were tempered because interest was a necessary reward for lenders to part with their capital. And interest performs many other vital functions: it encourages people to save; enables them to place a value on precious assets, such as houses and all manner of financial securities; and allows us to price risk.

Grain of Salt
This was a bit of an odd one. The general take-home messages are ok, but the book feels as though it was written by someone stuck in a different generation, educated years ago, and who grew up in a stringent, religious household. There are a lot of stereotypes to wade through (real men look like the Brawny towels guy, watch football, drink beer, hunt, and build engines) while women are emotional. There is also a significant push to introduce the daughter to god. Further, weed is a gateway drug, the interweb is the devil and those without religious faith are doomed. The narrator also has an odd habit of pronouncing ‘dad’ like ‘dahhht’ - a minor gripe but still somewhat distracting. I think the author weighs on her credentials and a few carefully selected research articles to win arguments, but the majority of what is written is opinion. Mostly well intentioned but could be updated for more progressive and modern parenting styles.

Great info
To bad most fathers won't have the courage to follow this kind of advice. Tough conversation will have to take place and those conversations will only be done by real men.

Big picture ok but old fashioned
I think some of the big picture concepts here are good but I had to see when this was written because it feels like an old mindset. Not even a good old mindset. Talking about blackberries and that sort of thing I was surprised this was written in 2016. I think it hits the big picture points pretty ok but just prepare to ignore a lot of great grandma type points of view.

Good insight for fathers - and mothers.
I found that the advice in this book was pretty sound. Some are common sense, some very insightful. All the information is good, however, the part on the Teen Daughter is priceless!
The narrator had kind of a dire tone throughout this book. It was almost condescending or maybe urgent. I am not sure. It was kind-of offputting. There also seemed to be a removal for the mother's role in this. As well as an undertone of 'fathers, don't F-up with your daughters."
It's a short book.

Excellent book for fathers
I have a 13 year old daugther. Would strongly recommend for any father of a girl 10 years to 15. Any later than 15 and you may have lost the window to impact your daughter. What I enjoyed most about this book is that it gave premission for men to be men with their daughters. They want and need you to be interested in them and to protect them. Today dad's take it on the chin with regularity for being male. Millenia of evolution and experience indicate that men can and must play a key role in child rearing. This does book does a great job of outlining the role father's must play in their lives of their daughters. I didn't agree with everything in the book, but the vast majority made entirely reasonable sense. I recommned!

It's ok
This book is worth listening to... but holy moly it sounds like my great grandmother wrote it in 1950.
Lots of generalizations about men and women. Lots of worst case scenario stories and examples.
If you're an open minded father, you'll find yourself scratching your head at times. It all comes from a good place though.
Take it for what its worth.

More preaching than practical advice...
Way too much preaching for my liking. Whatever advice was useful, was very basic. Any father worth two cents would know all of this. My guess is that this book was meant for fathers who grew up under a rock, behind a church.
