Historia
Mothers are the breadwinners in two-thirds of American families, yet the American workplace is uniquely hostile to the needs of parents. Weaving in surprising research about the dysfunction between the careers and home lives of working mothers, as well as the consequences to women's health, Alcorn tells a deeply personal story about "having it all,” failing miserably, and what comes after. Ultimately, she offers readers a vision for a healthier, happier, and more productive way to live and work.

Historia
In June of 1999, Stephen King was hit by a van while walking along the shoulder of a country road in Maine. Six operations were required to save his life and mend his broken body. When he was finally able to sit up, he immediately started writing. This book - part biography, part a collection of tips for the aspiring writer - is the extraordinary result.

Part 'How to' part Autobiographical
Revisado: 09-10-12
Would you consider the audio edition of On Writing to be better than the print version?
Yes - easier to access for busy budding writers
What other book might you compare On Writing to and why?
None, Stephen King's advice and narration are so easy to listen to and his honesty is very inspiring.
Have you listened to any of Stephen King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, Bag of Bones, love his voice, this was a different type of book and very easy to listen to.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was very moved when he admitted and owned his alcoholism.
Any additional comments?
I love his message, writers need to understand that he wasn't born with a golden spoon. He worked very hard at some seriously menial jobs and perservered with his writing when most of us would be making excuses.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

This book stuck in my mind and heart
Revisado: 07-30-12
If you could sum up The Gratitude Effect in three words, what would they be?
I bought this book as a hard copy a few years ago, and remembered the 'common sense' which is not so common these days and wisdom of his message. Easy listening, very good message, a good place to start a new day, week, or month.

Historia
Are you ready to embrace universal law and live a natural life? If there is one overall message to this book, it is that we must avoid being overwhelmed by life, to realise that there is something larger than us which is willing to shoulder the burdens. If we can live by faith instead of fear, we have found the secret door to success that she speaks of. Scovel Shinn devoted her life to helping people recognize the link between their attitudes and their level of happiness. A relaxed state of expectancy, she taught, is the best mindset for bringing success into your life.
