Can’t Hurt Me, David Goggins’ smash hit memoir, demonstrated how much untapped ability we all have but was merely an introduction to the power of the mind. In Never Finished, Goggins takes you inside his Mental Lab, where he developed the philosophy, psychology, and strategies that enabled him to learn that what he thought was his limit was only his beginning and that the quest for greatness is unending.

The true Goggins
Revisado: 01-05-25
What an excellent narrative! It's engaging to have a story told with relatable characters. The outline of the background highlights the struggles faced by the protagonist. This story isn't just about reaching physical peak performance and emphasizes the importance of understanding mental strength.

Historia
On a cold day in March of 1911, officials marched twelve Black men into the heart of a forest in Maryland. Under the supervision of a doctor, the men were forced to clear the land, pour cement, lay bricks, and harvest tobacco. When construction finished, they became the first twelve patients of the state’s Hospital for the Negro Insane. For centuries, Black patients have been absent from our history books. Madness transports listeners behind the brick walls of a Jim Crow asylum. In Madness, journalist Antonia Hylton tells the 93-year-old history of Crownsville Hospital.

Mental health the history in black America
Revisado: 12-17-24
The narrative of this book was good, and it was dedicated to ensuring that we understand the impact of mental health on the black community. It was very impactful. It outlined the history of how they treated black Americans, and the outcome of the Daniel Perry case in New York shows that it was not surprising. We need to do better, but we need to treat mental health as a crisis so that it is not a burden on society.

In the rolling hills just outside Gaborone, surrounded by a grove of acacia trees, lies the Great Hippopotamus Hotel. With spacious rooms overlooking the Botswanan countryside and a fine and loyal staff, the hotel has served as a refuge to weary travelers for many years. But a sudden string of misfortunes threatens to ruin the hotel’s reputation. Food poisoning befalls an unlucky diner, laundry mysteriously disappears from the drying line, and a scorpion stings one of the guests. Mishap after mishap occurs, until it becomes apparent that these incidents are more than simple coincidences.

Revisado: 11-01-24
The narrator makes this book immensely enjoyable, and the depth of character development is impressive. It reinforces the idea that you should never judge a book by its cover. The narrative flow and the characters' journeys showcase their maturation and personal growth, emphasizing themes of forgiveness and change. Overall, it's a great listen.

This is an excellent book for both children and adults. Trevor Noah's narrative and voice make the book highly enjoyable. It is worth listening to children, as they will appreciate the simple story, which carries a valuable hidden meaning.

Ta-Nehisi Coates originally set out to write a book about writing, in the tradition of Orwell’s classic “Politics and the English Language,” but found himself grappling with deeper questions about how our stories—our reporting and imaginative narratives and mythmaking—expose and distort our realities. In the first of the book’s three intertwining essays, Coates, on his first trip to Africa, finds himself in two places at once: in Dakar, a modern city in Senegal, and in a mythic kingdom in his mind.

After the conversation
Revisado: 10-15-24
One of the best narratives that I’ve listened to! After watching the interview on the CBS morning show, you might believe this book only outlines one point of view with no history or background, which is false. The book presents a different perspective of what’s happening in the world. The interviewer on CBS failed to realize that not everyone has to agree with the opinion, and not agreeing does not make you anti-Semitic. This book highlights struggle and history and encourages you to build your opinion. Everyone should realize that. I will listen to it again and again.

Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

Once again, I've found an excellent book that delves into various topics, providing fresh perspectives and shedding new light on familiar characters from past novels. I thoroughly enjoyed this book because the narrator made the experience very engaging. The depth of character development was extraordinary. I'm planning to listen to it again. I can't get enough of this author's wit and sensory humour!

Returning to the territory he so brilliantly explored in his masterful New York Times best seller American Gods, the incomparable Neil Gaiman offers up a work of dazzling ingenuity, a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth that is at once startling, terrifying, exhilarating, and fiercely funny, a true wonder of a novel that confirms Stephen King's glowing assessment of the author as "a treasure house of story, and we are lucky to have him."

Revisado: 09-02-24
It's such an excellent book! I enjoyed the narrator's ability to embody different characters with distinct voices and tones. It truly reflects the narrator's skills. The story flowed so well, evoking memories of a tropical vacation. The familiar characters and writing style created an excellent flow. The pace of the book was outstanding. I can listen to this repeatedly due to the enjoyment it brings. It's one of the best, for sure.

Historia
The protagonist of Percival Everett's puckish new novel is a brilliant professor of mathematics who goes by Wala Kitu. (Wala, he explains, means "nothing" in Tagalog, and Kitu is Swahili for "nothing.") He is an expert on nothing. That is to say, he is an expert, and his area of study is nothing, and he does nothing about it.

I am enjoying the narrator of this book, the author, Everett. I am starting to believe that it is the narration that makes the book—I need to read one to change my opinion. The plot flows well, and I really enjoy the characters. It is an excellent novel, and I highly recommend it.

I was, in life, to be a gambler, a risk-taker, a swashbuckler, a knight. I accepted, then and there, my place in the world. I was a fighter of windmills. I was a chaser of whales. I was Not Sidney Poitier. Not Sidney Poitier is an amiable young man in an absurd country. The sudden death of his mother orphans him at age eleven, leaving him with an unfortunate name, an uncanny resemblance to the famous actor, and, perhaps more fortunate, a staggering number of shares in the Turner Broadcasting Corporation.

Revisado: 06-11-24
What an excellent narrative. It's one of the best I’ve listened to in a long time. The change in tone and accent when describing a character is extraordinary. Bringing up past events, past movies, and past people in such a way leads to a lot of humour in this book and goes from a serious topic to a funny comedy.

Thelonious "Monk" Ellison's writing career has bottomed out: his latest manuscript has been rejected by seventeen publishers, which stings all the more because his previous novels have been "critically acclaimed." He seethes on the sidelines of the literary establishment as he watches the meteoric success of We's Lives in Da Ghetto, a first novel by a woman who once visited "some relatives in Harlem for a couple of days."

Truly an Amercian Fiction
Revisado: 05-30-24
The narrative of this book was genuinely excellent, and I was surprised by the action and the characters. The book flowed very smoothly. The characters are relatable, and the author gives insight into the individual's mindset and mind frame in society. The book flowed at an even and enjoyable pace, and the characters were well-developed; now I will watch the movie.
