Historia
The 1950s are on the horizon, and Archer is in dire need of a fresh start after a nearly fatal detour in Poca City. So Archer hops on a bus and begins the long journey out west to California, where rumor has it there is money to be made if you’re hard-working, lucky, criminal - or all three. Along the way, Archer stops in Reno, where a stroke of fortune delivers him a wad of cash and an eye-popping blood-red 1939 Delahaye convertible - plus a companion for the final leg of the journey, an aspiring actress named Liberty Callahan who is planning to try her luck in Hollywood.

Interjecting narrator
Revisado: 10-10-21
The lady who is depicting females in this production has a “barged in on the narrative” sound and seems like she did her narrations in a separate recording session. I’d rather hear one narrator even if the depiction of the female voices by a guy is a little weird.

In his own words, the heavyweight champion of the world pulls no punches as he chronicles the battles he faced in and out of the ring in this fascinating memoir edited by Nobel Prize-winning novelist, Toni Morrison. Growing up in the South, surrounded by racial bigotry and discrimination, Ali fought not just for a living, but also for respect and rewards far more precious than money or glory. He was named Sportsman of the Century by Sports Illustrated and the BBC.

Only one or two tedious parts otherwise...
Revisado: 11-22-18
There is one section of the book where Ali has a “conversation” with his ex that serves as a literary device to recap of a lot of his history with her. Unfortunately, it’s very tedious and too long… i.e., rather boring. It was at that point that I almost decided to stop listening. But there are some sections of the book that redeem it, such as the blow by blow accounts of the historic flights in Ali’s career. This actually is a must for boxing fans and Muhamed Ali fans alike.

Historia
Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped. They all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier, for-profit law school so mediocre that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam, let alone get good jobs. And when they learn that their school is one of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans, the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.

Hardly up to typical Grisham standards
Revisado: 12-25-17
If you compare this novel to some of Grisham’s greatest works, such as Sycamore Row, A Painted House, The Firm, and many other legal thrillers, this one is a far cry from the quality displayed in those books. Of course as a vehicle for condemning our student loan process and the outrageous cost of education (especially at the portrayed garbage in/out Foggy Bottom Law School), it serves, but as a page turner... not at all. Has Grisham run out of gas? I deeply respect the lion’s share of his work but this one is a bit not so good.

Thoroughly Enjoyed
Revisado: 05-25-17
I don't understand all the complaints about the narration. I'm from NC, the accent is spot on; I've known many guys who speak this way in the South. Plus Hill can pull off women's voices without sounding dumb. The record speaks for itself, the guy has narrated over 500 books! I think the authors are satisfied!
The story is excellent, although as this series grows I have a feeling it will get a little hard to believe that Penn Cage manages to get himself into these incredible situations over and over again. Oh well, it's just a book!!! I now do have a certain curiosity about Natchez MS!
The cliff hanger ending... attempt to get people to buy the next installment..
I did notice the eq on this book is very boomy, which on some audio systems can distort.

Historia
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Joe Morton gave this story the emotion and punch it needs. No dry narration; I'd say more dramatic performance. I'm looking for more by this artist.

Historia
John Hart creates a literary thriller that is as suspenseful as it is poignant, a riveting murder mystery layered beneath the southern drawl of a humble North Carolina lawyer. When Work Pickens finds his father murdered, the investigation pushes a repressed family history to the surface and he sees his own carefully constructed facade begin to crack.

If it happened in NC it should sound like it
Revisado: 10-11-16
This is a riveting mystery, well paced, and makes me want to hear more from this author.. but where is Frank Muller when we need him? He put so much of that Southern feel to John Grisham's work, and this book is every bit as good as Grisham's. Too bad the reader doesn't capture that soft drawl that could carry the listener to Rowan county, NC.

More of kinda the same
Revisado: 10-02-16
To me, Hiaasen's books are a little like A Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy. A bit of absurdity and a lot of weird characters. I found it difficult sometimes to keep track of the story line. Perhaps this style of writing is not conducive to narration. I kept having to rewind to get a sense of continuity in the story if my attention would wander in the least, because the story line can get convoluted quickly.

Very cool for gear heads.
Revisado: 08-23-16
I really liked this book's narrative style, a touch of tongue in cheek humor when describing how nuclear accidents usually happen: some intervening human hand overrides the computerized protections to safeguard the plant and surrounding areas. Appalling descriptions of individual radiation sickness warn all of us that the imp in the bottle is always ready to escape.

This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

Real men?
Revisado: 08-08-16
The author, being female, I don't think "gets" men. Perhaps this book would have worked better if the characters had been depicted as women. The four friends seem to be overly effeminate and to my mind, act and behave as women. I have never never heard men apologize so much to one another for hurting each other's feelings. The reader does not help much, giving the characters very immature, high-pitched voices, even after they enter their 50's as time progresses. Additionally, the length of this audio performance (30+ hrs) is partly due to the slow delivery cadence of the narrator. I used 1.25x speed to keep from falling asleep waiting for the next word to bubble out of his mouth.
