Not a fan of religious abuse/ depending on a “higher power”…
Revisado: 01-24-22
I’m not a fan of needing a “higher power” to overcome issues. Religious abuse and brainwashing in self help is a big red flag for me. Not a fan of the cult like qualities of AA either. However a lot of the rest of the book has some good advice. Worthwhile for an hour of your time.

Famous book but dated content
Revisado: 01-11-22
A classic book, but lots of conflicting messaging. I’m also not a huge fan of Christian dogma so if you cut that part out I’d say the rest of the book is helpful. Somewhat unrealistic advice at times but sometimes useful. A bit rambly at times.

Some good info, but outdated and missing a lot.

Some good info, but outdated and missing a lot. I feel a lot of emotional components were glossed over. I recommend seeking out newer info on ethical non-monogamy.

A bit to idealistic
Revisado: 08-18-21
I feel the author had biases against hierarchical polyamory which I felt was not fair, as that is my preference over egalitarian polyamory for many practical and valid reasons. I got a lot out of this book, but after 9 years of being poly I question if I even am in alignment with that lifestyle anymore. Fern states that polyamory is an “insecure relationship style” and that really resonated with me. It made me realize maybe that I actually crave something more secure like a monogamous or monogamish relationship. The 1st half of the book is helpful to anyone, as it’s all about attachment theory. Even monogamous people can get a lot out of this book.
