Historia
When world-class biblical scholar Bart Ehrman first began to study the texts of the Bible in their original languages he was startled to discover the multitude of mistakes and intentional alterations that had been made by earlier translators. In Misquoting Jesus, Ehrman tells the story behind the mistakes and changes that ancient scribes made to the New Testament and shows the great impact they had upon the Bible we use today.

Interesting read
Revisado: 06-23-23
Interesting perspective for sure. If you’ve heard the author speak before in great courses etc then it’s odd to hear someone else reading his words. Particularly so that he’s so dramatic. I didn’t enjoy that but realize he’s likely a good voice otherwise

Historia
In the history of modern sport, there have never been two high-level teammates who loathed each other the way Shaquille O’Neal loathed Kobe Bryant and Kobe Bryant loathed Shaquille O’Neal. From public sniping and sparring, to physical altercations and the repeated threats of trade, it was warfare. And yet, despite eight years of infighting and hostility, by turns mediated and encouraged by coach Phil Jackson, the Shaq-Kobe duo resulted in one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history.

Interesting story with many players mentioned
Revisado: 05-14-22
Only problem with audiobook is that the reader cannot pronounce the names of most former NBA players. From mispronouncing Rick Mahorn (an easy one) to Dikembe Mutombo (tweener) to Hedo Turkalo (difficult one), he butchers name after name. I suppose it’s a small issue given the book is insightful, but it was annoying. Did provide tremendous insight on many Lakers players, coaches and GMs from a multi layered perspective hitting on weaknesses and strengths and how they all intermingled with each other. Good read

Was What's My Line TV star, media icon, and crack investigative reporter and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen murdered for writing a tell-all book about the JFK assassination? If so, is the main suspect in her death still at large? These questions and more are answered in former CNN, ESPN, and USA Today legal analyst Mark Shaw's 25th book, The Reporter Who Knew Too Much.

Don’t bother
Revisado: 04-05-22
This book is about a woman who was a crime reporter, amongst other amazing accomplishments. So why didn’t I enjoy it? Because the second half of the book wanes on and on about things using almost zero evidence save one comment here or there by random folks. It’s pathetic journalism that is most innuendo and conjecture, a far cry from what the subject would approve.

Historia
From the moment John Roberts, the chief justice of the United States, blundered through the Oath of Office at Barack Obama's inauguration, the relationship between the Supreme Court and the White House has been confrontational. Both men are young, brilliant, charismatic, charming, determined to change the course of the nation - and completely at odds on almost every major constitutional issue. One is radical; one essentially conservative. The surprise is that Obama is the conservative.

Better than expected
Revisado: 01-15-22
Toobin is well known for being left of center so I expected this book to be a rebuke of the Roberts court in it’s entirety. And I’m theme it does lean left in how it addresses certain topics. However he also gave proper credit to the various justices on the right and even highlighted their intelligence at various points throughout his case descriptions. Of course he rarely supported their viewpoints but that’s to be expected. The cases are more recent so in one sense if you’re a true buff you may not get as much new information as you’d like but I still thought it covered the key cases of this court well and gave reasonable insight into the decisions. There’s little behind the scenes interactions between the court members in this book, so if you’re looking for that, this isn’t the book for you.

Fascinating
Revisado: 07-06-21
It has to be fascinating to finish because of its length but it is truly in depth and written by someone who was there and did the research before, during and immediately after WW2. Glad I spent the time to learn more in depth what really happened.

Interesting stories are woven into this insightful approach to negotiating across many aspects of life. Highlights all the times you are negotiating even when you may not realize it and how to maximize your return in ways that are productive, even if counterintuitive. Will look for more from this author on this topic.

Hill walked alongside Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, and Gerald R. Ford, seeing them through a long, tumultuous era - the Cold War; the Cuban Missile Crisis; the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy; the Vietnam War; Watergate; and the resignations of Spiro Agnew and Richard M. Nixon.

Since its original publication by Little, Brown and Company, in 1942, Edith Hamilton's Mythology has sold millions of copies throughout the world and established itself as a perennial best-seller in its various available formats. Mythology succeeds like no other audiobook in bringing to life for the modern listener the Greek, Roman, and Norse myths and legends that are the keystone of Western culture - the stories of gods and heroes that have inspired human creativity from antiquity to the present.

I knew very little about mythology and decided to get this book. It’s not one cohesive story as you may imagine but many stories broken into sections and parts. Focus is on Greek and Roman with a touch of Norse. I learned quite a bit and so this book served its purpose well.

There is also, for the first time, the full behind-the-scenes story of Bush v. Gore and Sandra Day O'Connor's fateful breach with George W. Bush, the president she helped place in office.

Interesting but biased
Revisado: 05-12-19
While I enjoy the SCOTUS and it’s history a great deal, and certainly learned a good amount from this book, the author’s liberal bias is crystal clear as he tells the story of the court. If you’re looking for a book that will give an evenhanded assessment of the court and it’s justices, this is not the book for you.

Fascinating book!
Revisado: 05-02-19
This was a fascinating book for anyone who wants to learn more about presidential history. I read plenty about presidential history and still learned so much in this book. It’s definitely one to get ASAP. The only thing I’d say is it sometimes strays a tad off message but still focuses on presidential history, decisions, and how small things changed our country forever. Get it today!
