Gerardo Lopez is amazing. This back story is unreal and still happens everyday all over this country. I was enthralled with Gerardo's story, humor, and completely humble narrative. Thank you ladies for bringing us this entire podcast with so many different voices to us and especially Mr. Lopez's story.

From "America's principal chronicler of its greatest psychopathic killers" ( Boston Book Review) comes the definitive account of Ed Gein, a mild-mannered Wisconsin farmhand who stunned an unsuspecting nation - and redefined the meaning of the word psycho.

Great look into a terribly lonely man
Revisado: 01-31-23
Love, love, love the narrator! The story was informative and bunch of information that clears up mistruths and sheds light on the man behind the myth.
I would take away maybe a quarter of a star for the over use of " little man" throughout the book. I understand the book was published in 1989(I think) but that needs to go.
Awesome listen!

This is an easily digestible argument about what rights we have, what rights Republicans are trying to take away, and how to stop them. Mystal explains how to protect the rights of women and people of color instead of cowering to the absolutism of gun owners and bigots. He explains the legal way to stop everything from police brutality to political gerrymandering, just by changing a few judges and justices. He strips out all of the fancy jargon conservatives like to hide behind and lays bare the truth of their project to keep America forever tethered to its slaveholding past.

From a middle aged white woman... LISTEN TO ELIE!!
Revisado: 09-20-22
I love Elie Mystal and his narration was excellent. I have told many friends and coworkers how well Elie narriates (not surprising) and the education he is providing. I found myself getting defensive but continued listening with open ears and an open mind.... and he IS RIGHT. Again. This book provided IMPORTANT information, a LOT of head nodding, head shaking, frustration, anger, motivation to do something, and some laughs courtesy of Mr. Mystal. . I definitely recommend Allow Me to Retort.

Historia
Two childhood friends from Scotland and two illegitimate half-brothers from the deep South suffer and enjoy all manner of bizarre adventures that, it turns out, are somehow interconnected and, even more surprisingly, meaningful. The eclectic cast of characters features Socrates, Carl Jung, and Tony Randall, along with an ex-television evangelist with a penchant for booze, prostitutes, and uncomfortable knitwear who gets mugged in Miami by an almost pure-blooded Watusi warrior - and sets off on a road trip in a stolen motor home.

Historia
In 1948 most White people in the North had no idea how unjust and unequal daily life was for the 10 million African Americans living in the South. But that suddenly changed after Ray Sprigle, a famous White journalist from Pittsburgh, went undercover and lived as a Black man in the Jim Crow South. Escorted through the South's parallel Black society by John Wesley Dobbs, a historic Black civil rights pioneer from Atlanta, Sprigle met with sharecroppers, local Black leaders, and families of lynching victims.

I'd never heard of this man or this story, which is a shame. This is very compelling book which prompted me to read more about the people mentioned.

Historia
In this groundbreaking history of the modern American metropolis, Richard Rothstein explodes the myth that America's cities came to be racially divided through de facto segregation - that is, through individual prejudices, income differences, or the actions of private institutions like banks and real estate agencies. Rather, he incontrovertibly makes clear that it was de jure segregation - the laws and policy decisions passed by local, state, and federal governments - that actually promoted the discriminatory patterns that continue to this day.

Unbelievably difficult to stomach the facts
Revisado: 05-10-22
I am still experiencing strong visceral reactions to the disgusting history of how we treated groups of people - out of ignorance, fear, hatred, etc. There are still, in 2022, too many people that would rather not know about this history, the history of the US's treatment towards people of color - of how we are STILL treating those who aren't white, male, and Christian.
It is my hope that the cognitive laziness that is prevalent in our society somehow find this history (and more)- the actual factual undeniable history, and realize the impact - that we are talking about actual people... humans... someone's mother, someone's son, someone's father.... someone's daughter... that if we stop to think, stepping on someone's head and holding it under water is cruel, immoral, and all it does is punish society as as whole, not only the person who is purposely beaten down. It will take commitment, money, and a lot of sacrifice to even begin to address what has been done. Sadly, I don't see much hope considering the white Christian male is clawing his way back to the front of the line (even though he was ALWAYS there) to peddle fear and hate and prevent the teaching of the USA's history of the mistreatment, segregation, exploitation, callous disregard of African Americans.
I believe this book should be required material in middle/high school/college.. and for all of us.

Oh, how I hung on every word. Every chapter.
I found myself next to Trevor and felt so much throughout this amazing story.
If I could, I would hug Ms. Patricia and ask her a zillion questions. Such an amazing woman ❤️
Trevor is pretty amazing, too.
I definitely recommend to anyone and everyone

I was crying. I was laughing. I was ashamed for for the actions of so many. I was uplifted. I was disappointed. I was hopeful. I was one with each word of every chapter. I will listen to this amazing man's story over and over again. He is an inspiration and Mrs. Gregory is more of woman and wife than I could ever be. Thank you Audible for this. And thank you to the wonderful narrator - your voice is out of this world.

Historia
Stephen Miller is one of the most influential advisors in the White House. He has crafted Donald Trump’s speeches, designed immigration policies that ban Muslims and separate families, and outlasted such Trump stalwarts as Steve Bannon and Jeff Sessions. But he’s remained an enigma. Until now. Emmy- and PEN-winning investigative journalist and author Jean Guerrero charts the 34-year-old’s astonishing rise to power, drawing from more than 100 interviews with his family, friends, adversaries, and government officials.

I learned a lot about the disaster that is Mr. Miller and am better able to understand pieces of his mind. I "enjoyed" the novel.
The only thing I would change was the narrator. She has a wonderful soothing voice; however I felt that it would have been more impactful in a stronger voice and tone.
Overall, a great "read."
