Historia
Pino Lella wants nothing to do with the war or the Nazis. He's a normal Italian teenager - obsessed with music, food, and girls - but his days of innocence are numbered. When his family home in Milan is destroyed by Allied bombs, Pino joins an underground railroad helping Jews escape over the Alps, and falls for Anna, a beautiful widow six years his senior. In an attempt to protect him, Pino's parents force him to enlist as a German soldier - a move they think will keep him out of combat.

Amazing story
Revisado: 02-20-19
This is a different view of WWII, told through the eyes of an initially innocent and heroic young character. Is travails touch your heart, open your eyes and inspire. Parts of the book are difficult, but it is the war. It’s a beautiful story it is excellent performance.

Historia
Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race”, a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of Black women and men - bodies exploited through slavery and segregation and, today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of all proportion. What is it like to inhabit a Black body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden? Between the World and Me is Ta-Nehisi Coates’ attempt to answer these questions in a letter to his adolescent son.

Wonderful. Sobering. Touching.
Not so much about white guilt. What an honest frighteningly true expression of the black man’s experience.

Historia
Who exactly is Danziger? He's a writer of letters for illiterate immigrants on Manhattan's Lower East Side - "a steadfast practitioner of concealing and forgetting" for his clients, and perhaps for himself: He hints at a much worldlier past. What and whoever he really is or has been, he has a seemingly boundless knowledge of the city and its denizens. And he knows much more than the mere identity of the floating corpse.

Exhilarating
Revisado: 07-19-18
This author has become my summer friend. I loved Safe Houses And went right on to this one. It was a much rougher in terms of material but it was a wonderful story. Mr Fesperberg has been amazing ability to create Emotionally engaging characters that you can laugh and cry with. They have their flaws in their brilliance, and it’s a joy to travel this piece of life

Delightful tale, lovely listen.
Revisado: 07-15-18
I am recommending this book to all my audible and hand held reading buddies.
An interesting tale taking place in the 30's and the 50"s. Full of olfactory and emotional sensuality.
Characters you will fall in love with. A book you might read again, just for the pure pleasure of it.
You can imagine where the tale is going- but not the scenery along the way. You want to go on a slow ride through New York and Paris and are so sorry to reach the end.

Historia
West Berlin, 1979. Helen Abell oversees the CIA's network of safe houses, rare havens for field agents and case officers amidst the dangerous milieu of a city in the grips of the Cold War. Helen's world is upended when, during her routine inspection of an agency property, she overhears a meeting between two unfamiliar people speaking a coded language that hints at shadowy realities far beyond her comprehension. Before the day is out, she witnesses a second unauthorized encounter, one that will place her in the sight lines of the most ruthless and powerful man at the agency.

My new favorite author
Revisado: 07-15-18
I heard Dan, i feel intimately enough connected to cal him Dan, interviews by Terry Gross and was intrigued with his use of female characters in a CIA type novel. I was a bit concerned when I saw he was reading it himself. I have often been disappointed by this effort. He DID NOT disappoint. His accents were wonderful and his timing impeccable. After all- he wrote the words. I loved the story, the intrigue, getting to know the CIA from a female agent's point of view. He can write about difficult material without making you want to turn off the tape. He has a sweet spot form delicate romance and a sense of human vulnerabilities. Best of all , he has a delicious sense of humor. The tale is complex enough to keep you on the edge of your seat Only criticism is the last unraveling explanation was a bit quick-. It could have been developed a tad more.
I downloaded Letter Writer without skipping a beat and i have not been disappointed.

Marvelous book. Could not get enough of it
Revisado: 01-15-17
This was just a distraction I needed that provided a little bit of history and perspective while making me laugh and cry. The main character is cultured sensitive adorable preposterous. The story is incredibly interesting full of wonderful characters. You will fall in love, will hold your breath, You will giggle, and be amazed at the touching wisdom provided. The performance was masterful. I'm an avid audiobook reader and this may be one of my favorites.
