Historia
Seabury Quinn's short stories were featured in well more than half of the pulp magazine Weird Tales' original publication run. His most famous character, the supernatural French detective Dr. Jules de Grandin, investigated cases involving monsters, devil worshippers, serial killers, and spirits from beyond the grave, often set in the small town of Harrisonville, New Jersey.

Painful Narriation
Revisado: 04-26-22
The stories are great. Full of camp and pulp! The narration is absolutely horrible. This poor man would have done better to not attempt any accents. The good Doctor came off sounding like an unnamed Looney Toons skunk. Often the accent would stray to something resembling a generic Irish brogue.

A puzzling publishing murder attracts the eye of Ellery Queen. Mandarin Press is a premier publishing house for foreign literature, but to those at the top of this enterprise, there is little more beautiful than a rare stamp. As Donald Kirk, publisher and philatelist, prepares his office for a banquet, an unfamiliar man comes to call. No one recognizes him, but Kirk’s staff is used to strange characters visiting their boss, so Kirk’s secretary asks him to wait in the anteroom.

Worst Narration Ever
Revisado: 09-06-21
This was the worst narration I have ever heard. Bland vocals without inflection drone on forever. The words seem to run together. I had to stop listening.

Historia
In his wickedly brilliant first novel, Debut Dagger Award winner Alan Bradley introduces one of the most singular and engaging heroines in recent fiction: Eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison. It is the summer of 1950 - and a series of inexplicable events has struck Buckshaw, the decaying English mansion that Flavia’s family calls home. A dead bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. Hours later, Flavia finds a man lying in the cucumber patch and watches him as he takes his dying breath.

Revisado: 12-18-19
I hate to be so negative, but when the author uttered his 10th “uh” by the 4
minute mark I just had to stop. I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand so many pauses filled with “Uh”.

Revisado: 11-02-19
If you are even remotely interested in Roman history, don’t waste your time. These books are only an irritating narrator reading a list of facts. The narration was bland and stiff. I tried to listen but she kept mispronouncing words.

Not a Winner
Revisado: 09-10-19
I love Agatha Christie, but this novel, based on a play fell flat. There was no connection with the characters and the plot was easy to guess by the end of the first half. This was a sad waste of money. The only real bright spot was Hugh Fraser.

I love most of Christie’s work. If you have read her other books you know to watch for the “slip ups” the characters make. It never fails that I always pick up on a new clue every time I read or listen. As always Hugh Fraser is GREAT.

One hit and one miss.
Revisado: 08-06-19
I love The 4:50 from Paddigton, but The Man in the Brown Suit was horrible. I suppose it was all written in the popular culture of the time. It was predictable and trite, but the sexism was cringe worthy. There were parts that actually made me feel sorry that the great Agatha Christie has written such nonsense.
