Strongest in personal experience narrative

I learned much from this book. The author's relating of personal experiences and how they teach us was powerful. The larger sociological narrative was less compelling although I appreciated that near the end the author acknowledged that all cultures may not serve some individuals or groups well.

Gratuitous jibes mar this book. "You'll stand out from the rest of the crowd like a thinking man at a Joe Biden rally," is not helpful.
