Historia
In the waning days of the Civil War, brothers Prentiss and Landry—freed by the Emancipation Proclamation—seek refuge on the homestead of George Walker and his wife, Isabelle. The Walkers, wracked by the loss of their only son to the war, hire the brothers to work their farm. Prentiss and Landry, meanwhile, plan to save money for the journey north and a chance to reunite with their mother, who was sold away when they were boys. Equal parts beauty and terror, The Sweetness of Water is an epic whose grandeur locates humanity and love amid the most harrowing circumstances.

Elegant and moving
Revisado: 05-17-23
Haruf has a quiet elegance in his writing. No more words than necessary, yet the sense of place and people are vivid. Bramhall is pitch-perfect in bringing it to life. Just a beautiful book.

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Extraordinary woman
Revisado: 01-20-23
An artist to the bone, Ms Davis holds up a lens to raw, human truth as she sees it without prevarication. I’ve read other reviews that it’s “hard to listen to” or that her “language is offensive.” This is her life, and as such is both a searing story of being black and broke in the US, and an open-hearted microcosm of all of us.I dare you to hear it that way, as told by a true artist. She. Is. Amazing.

Historia
Legal Immigrant is Alan Cumming's collection of musings on his experiences as a US citizen, growing older, and what it feels like to be an immigrant in today's America, featuring songs and stories that are as eclectic and idiosyncratic as Alan himself. The audio, recorded live at the Minetta Lane Theatre, is a smorgasbord of genres, styles, and tales. Replete with laughter, tears and, of course, provocation, featuring covers of songs made famous by a diverse array of musical legends.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Wonderful...and TOM HANKS
Revisado: 02-04-20
It’s an excellent story—rich characters, compelling narrative, all you expect from Ann Patchett.
But my favorite part was Tom Hanks’s reading of the chapter headings. Can’t explain it; somehow he made them part of the story. <3

Great story, but pacing was too fast and production quality poor. There was a persistent hiss, an occasional background tone and at the end, jaunty music started a nanosecond after the poignant final sentence. After 36 hours of listening, that pissed me off.
