Historia
ADHD may be the defining diagnosis of our time. According to the latest data, more than 10 percent of American children (that’s 7.1 million kids) have been diagnosed with ADHD. And the number of stimulant prescriptions for adults in their 30s has shot up nearly threefold since 2012. In recent years, this explosion in demand has combined with other factors to create a widespread stimulant shortage in the US. In the second installment of Backfired, cohosts Leon Neyfakh and Arielle Pardes look at the unintended consequences of the ADHD industry, and trace the surprising path that brought us here.

Excellent podcast.
Revisado: 01-08-25
This podcast was excellent. They take me on a journey where I have an opinion, they completely upend my thinking, then bring me back 😂. I felt the same when I listened to the Vaping Wars. I can’t say enough good things about the way they solidly research these topics, conduct interviews, and weave together a story based on scientific evidence. Stellar.

Historia
No one loves Christmas more than editorial assistant Eve Pilkins. But when her boss hits her with a huge deadline on Christmas Day, it looks like Eve's favourite time of the year might be cancelled. Armed with as much enthusiasm as she can muster, she travels to the coldest part of England, tasked with ensuring brooding author Edward Priest finishes his latest novel on time. The festive spirit at Cranberry Cross is as dark as the house itself; without a fairy light in sight, it looks like only a Christmas miracle can save this one. Will Eve be up to the task?

I virtually never give 5 stars but this book earned it. Great story, characters, real life family issues…this was my first Kate Forster book and not my last.

Historia
Christa Playfoot is looking for a fresh start after her divorce. Having lost her Michelin-starred restaurant, she hadn't expected to be job hunting and single just before Christmas. When her best friend says she's recommended Christa for a gig as a private chef over the Christmas period, Christa can't think of a reason to say no. Christa has no idea what to expect but it's certainly not grumpy billionaire divorcee Marc Ferrier and his rambunctious twin sons, or the beautiful but cheerless country estate, Pudding Hall, that they inhabit.

Binging on Kate Forster books this weekend!
Revisado: 01-05-25
My second Kate Forster this weekend and these are great! Christmas Eve at cranberry cross is SLIGHTLY better but both are definitely worth your time. Great characters, real life family issues that are addressed. Really good books.

He has the muscles of Adonis, an ego bigger than the sun, and a very clear desire to get back in my pants. Which would be fantastic if he weren't a SEAL and I wasn't a criminal. Although, I prefer the term avenger. I'm a hacktivist, cleaning up the cesspool of cyberspace one scam artist and troll at a time, and I sometimes bend a few rules to get justice done. He's a military man with abs of glory, sworn to uphold the letter of the law no matter its shortcomings. And if he'd known who - or what - I was, I doubt he would've banged me at my best friend's wedding reception.

Even Teddy Hamilton couldn’t save this
Revisado: 01-03-25
I love a good romance suspense, but this book was pretty terrible. I gave points for the premise and teddy. Pippa grant writes like a toddler in a roomful of adults that gets a laugh for a behavior then does it over and over for 6 hours to garner more laughs. Eloise’s dialogue is awful made all the worse by MM’s flat delivery. This wasn’t the right character for her narration style. Back to Eloise: How many outrageous terms can you come up with to describe sex and body parts? Good God it got old. This book was very juvenile.

Perfect Christmas themed novella. Her books are always sweet but I loved this one in particular and it felt fully developed even though it was a short story.

England, 1914. The world is at war. Captain Hastings, injured and shaken, is invited to Styles Court to recover. It’s a grand old country house - the family home of his old friend - and a perfect haven. Or so it seems. But in the blistering summer heat, trouble is afoot. Simmering tensions are tearing the family apart, and it all comes to a head in the most horrifying way.

But after one too many, she spills all her secrets to the hot guy seated next to her—only to wake up mortified when her buzz has worn off. At least she never has to see Liam again ... or so she thinks. When Molly arrives at Christmas House, the festive rental home that she and her family are sharing with her sister’s fiancé and his wealthy family, she discovers that Liam is one of the new in-laws. Wanted: one hot billionaire to pose as my Christmas boyfriend. Must be willing to make my cheating ex jealous when you kiss me under the mistletoe at all the holiday parties. Bonus points if you make him cry. To my surprise my billionaire boss is more than up for the challenge of coming down the chimney as my holiday boyfriend. The sexy single dad desperately needs a plus one at a Christmas Eve wedding, where he’s the best man and I’m the maid of honor.

5 STARS! A festive, fun holiday romance!
- De Danielle en 11-12-24
Story decent, narrators top notch
Revisado: 12-26-24
Lauren Blakey’s books are often an instant buy and this holiday one definitely was. Fantastic cast. Story felt even more predictable and unrealistic than usual, but it was still sweet. My biggest critique is that over the years, LB had added SO many references to the environment and eco-friendly products that it is a distraction to me as a reader. I love that this is an important value for her characters but so much often feels forced in the text. I want to say “I GET it!” when another reference is made😂 I still love her books, though…😉

Wasn’t for me
Revisado: 12-12-24
I was pretty excited to see a Christmas suspense and was eager to listen. This book just did not deliver for me. The characters are all pretty pathetic, the story was predictable and even though it was only 4+ hours it felt much longer. I finally sped it up to 1.5 speed just to get to the end. I really WANTED to like it…

When mystery author D. B. Ziegler is late delivering her book, Abi Schore steps in to help. Surely she can give her favorite author moral support over the holiday break and get the manuscript to her boss at Tea & Sympathy Publishing in time for the new year. When Abi shows up on Ms. Ziegler’s doorstep bearing holiday treats, she’s met by the author’s handsome grandson Dov, who reveals a startling plot twist. His grandmother isn’t able to finish the book and Dov promised he’d complete it so fans won’t be disappointed—a task that’s harder than he ever imagined.

Excellent!
Revisado: 12-07-24
I enjoy these Liz Maverick winter books immensely and have listened to 5 or 6 over the last few years. They are such a treat and an immediate buy for me. Narrators are always excellent and the stories are great. This one was particularly poignant. I’m Christian, but I’m glad to see a series that celebrates Jewish traditions. And I loved mention of the “series bible”. I have always wondered how that is handled!! Keep the books coming. ❤️ I will try to wait patiently for next year’s release…sigh..
