Aly is insufferable

The narrators are both great. Wonderful performance by both of them. The writing is actually pretty funny. I was happy with the comedic value. Caught myself laughing out loud several times. BUT..Aly is insufferable, petulant and acts like a teenager. She is ungrateful and unlikable. The story would’ve been much better if she wasn’t so obnoxious.

Sleeper pick

I wasn’t sold on this book from its description and took it in and out of my cart a few times, but since I haven’t yet met a Brom book I haven’t enjoyed I went ahead and bought it. To be honest, I was a bit annoyed with the singing at first, but in the end, I think it was very well done. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who is on the fence.

Decent story, subpar narration

I enjoyed the story. Definitely not as good as the Martian but still plenty entertaining.

Dawson was the biggest downside. Although she has a great voice her narration was often not so great and her accents were awful, especially the bar tender. Cringeworthy.

I will look for more books from Weir in the future.

A book about nothing….

This is my first time with this author so I didn’t know what to expect, but this book just drags on and on with nothing really happening. On chapter45 with 6 hours left and don’t know if I can finish.
Maybe I’m just not connecting with Demon but this story reads like a biography about a kid who had a crappy childhood in foster care, but not one so bad that it’s worth writing a book about.
I would not recommend this book.
I would on the other hand recommend the narrator. He did good work.

Good but not great

I got this book because it was recommended for people who liked Bernard Cornwell books. While I can see why it was recommended I felt like the story was not written as well as Cornwell and left me wanting better battle descriptions. Don’t get me wrong, the story was good, just not great. The narrator was annoying at first but ended up being acceptable. Again, good not great.

Characters are annoying

I liked the story and the plot, but the characters are annoying. Musashi most of all. He comes across as a petulant whiny jerk that I want to slap constantly: hard to get behind him. Blind lady is a self righteous B word and also annoying. Outside of that it was enjoyable.

Ended a bit abruptly

I thought the book was quite good and the narrator did a solid job. I was surprised when the book just ended though. It seemed far from any natural ending and nothing was really wrapped up. Not sure I like that choice.

Jonathan Keeble is a must

This is my second time listening through this entire series and without a doubt Jonathan Keeble brings Utred to life better than anyone. He was sorely missed in this book and the others he doesn’t narrate. I would pay full price a second time just to listen to these books be narrated by Keeble.
The story itself never disappoints though.

Great book

This book starts a little slow and I wasn't sure about the narrator but gave him a chance... once you get used to his voice as Chet he really does a good job with the other characters. The book was very entertaining and I will definitely listen again.
