Life sucks. Gabe Harris has been clued into this fact for a long time now. In his mid-twenties, life has been nothing but low paying jobs, petty power-tripping bosses, and the worst roommates mankind has to offer. Bills, debt, and misery have haunted him for his entire adult life and, to make matters worse, it feels like his dream of being a writer is dead on arrival. One fateful night, he decides to take control of his life and make his dream a reality.

A Terrific Retelling
Revisado: 09-13-23
Our Own Way was the first Misty Vixen book I ever read, and I absolutely loved it. When I heard of the plan to rewrite it I was equal parts excited and nervous. After finishing the first part of the rewrite I’m happy to find that all the things that made me love this story in the first place haven’t been lost amid the changes the author felt compelled to make. I eagerly awaited the next volume of this retelling of the story.

It was a pretty radical idea - a channel for teenagers, showing nothing but music videos. It was such a radical idea that almost no one thought it would actually succeed, much less become a force in the worlds of music, television, film, fashion, sports, and even politics. But it did work. MTV became more than anyone had ever imagined. I Want My MTV tells the story of the first decade of MTV, the golden era when MTV's programming was all videos, all the time, and kids watched religiously to see their favorite bands, learn about new music, and have something to talk about at parties.

Minor Edit to My Rating
Revisado: 11-30-22
So I really enjoyed this book. It did exactly what I wanted it to do, it took me back to my youth. My only change I’ve made is to drop my rating of the performance. The only reason I’ve done that is because my next audiobook was “It’s Saturday Night” which serves the same function as this book, only telling the story of SNL. The two books are formatted in the same way, telling there stories through quotes and interviews with the people who were there and made it happen. The difference is that this book was read by 1 person and the other was read by 2. This book would have benefited greatly from using both a male and female voice, telling those stories from each unique perspective.

Lost of Heartwarming Fun
Revisado: 11-30-22
Had fun listening to this story. I’m usually listening at work to help me limit distractions and make my nights go by faster and this one was great. I would have liked it to be a little longer, maybe a little more between the girl and her father, but that’s mostly because I had about another hour and a half before my shift ended when I finished it. I think the reader did a great job carrying over all the voices which is no small task. Christmas doesn’t really play too big a role in the story. This could have been set at any time of year and it would have played out the same way, but I think authors in general use the holiday as a common emotional trigger for readers to relate to so it’s all good.

It’s About Time
Revisado: 11-09-22
First, I’ve read everything Rex Sterling currently has available and I have no plans to stop now. While this isn’t one Sterling’s best stories I’m just so pleased to see his stuff getting the audiobook treatment that I don’t even care about that. I just hope he keeps it up and we do get “Stand In Daddy”, “Harem Help Me”, and “Treasure of the Hidden Harem”.
I hated giving a 3 star review to the performance, because the reader did a great job, the problem is that all of Sterling’s books are written from the male protagonist’s perspective, so audiobooks of his stuff should be read by a male reader in order to sound right. If it had been read by a male reader it would have sounded more real I think.
I for one am keeping my fingers crossed that this is only the first of many Rex Sterling audiobooks. If Sterling keeps putting them out I’ll keep getting them.

My Newest Obsession!
Revisado: 07-21-22
I watched My Dress Up Darling on a whim and I fell in love with it immediately. I’m a big fan of Slice of Life anime so it was right up my alley. Most of my friends don’t watch anime so I don’t have very many people I can geek out with about stuff like this so listening in on these people experiencing it for themselves is so enjoyable for me. I can recommend both the anime and this podcast.

Historia
A breakthroughexamination of professional wrestling - its history, its fans, and its widercultural impact - that does for the sport what Chuck Klosterman did for heavymetal
The Squared Circle grows out of David Shoemaker'swriting for both Deadspin, where hestarted the column "Dead Wrestler of the Week" - a feature on the many wrestlingsuperstars who died too young because of the abuse they subjected their bodiesto - and Grantland, where he covers the pro-wrestling world and its place in the pop culturemainstream. Shoemaker's sports writing has since struck a nerve withgenerations of wrestling fans who, like him, grew up worshiping a sport oftenderided as "fake" in the wider culture. To them, these professional wrestlingsuperstars are not just heroes but an emotional outlet and the lens throughwhich they learned to see the world.
Starting in the early 1900s and exploring the path of prowrestling in America through the present day, The Squared Circle is thefirst book to acknowledge both the sport's broader significance and wrestlingfans' keen intellect and sense of irony. Divided into eras, each section offersa snapshot of the wrestling world, profiles some of the period's preeminentwrestlers, and examines the sport's influence on our broader culture. Throughthe brawling, bombast, and bloodletting, Shoemaker argues that pro wrestlingcan teach us about the nature of performance, audience, and, yes, art.
Full of unknown history, humor, and self-deprecatingreminiscence - but also offering a compelling look at the sport's rightful placein pop culture - The Squared Circle is the book that legions of wrestlingfans have been waiting for. In it, Shoemaker teaches us to look past thespandex and body slams to see an art form that can explain the world.

Technical Difficulties?
Revisado: 10-06-20
My only issue with this book was that it was very clear where edits were made as there was a definite drop in sound quality where these edits were made. In all my years of audiobook listening I’ve never come across this issue outside of old radio dramas from the 1930’s & ‘40’s.
Outside of these technical problems I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any fan of Pro Wrestling or anyone interested in it’s history.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

It’s Been a While
Revisado: 08-13-20
It’s been while since I’ve been so affected by a book. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to throttle the characters, I wanted to wrap my arms around them and tell them it was all gonna be okay. I listened to this mostly while at work so there were some difficult moments for me, but this story just drew me in and wouldn’t let go. This is one of those books that I wish I could roll back time and listen it again for the first time, but I am looking forward to hearing it again to see if I pick up on things I may have missed the first time around.
If the rock scene of the 70’s is of any interest you’ll enjoy this story and it’s well written and preformed characters.

Historia
An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, whose lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into pop's mainstream as one of MTV's first megastars, Billy Idol remains, to this day, a true rock 'n' roll icon. Now, in his long-awaited autobiography, Dancing with Myself, Idol delivers an electric, searingly honest account of his journey to fame - from his early days as front man of the pioneering UK punk band Generation X to the decadent life atop the dance-rock kingdom he ruled.

Bloody Brilliant!!
Revisado: 01-31-20
There are so many things about this book that I loved, but it was the epilogue, when he talks about his Dad’s passing, that touched me the deepest. So many of the things between Idol and his Dad I can see in my relationship with my own father.
As a glimpse into the birth of the Punk Rock movement in the 70’s as well as the emergence of an 80’s musical icon, this book is a fantastic read. I devoured it in just a couple days as it really drew me in, but I have to say it probably wouldn’t have had that effect if it hadn’t been read by Billy himself. I’m a major advocate of autobiography audiobooks being read by the person they’re about. No one else can convey the nuances of emotion when telling your own story better than you can.
Thank you, Billy, for making time to give us your story, not just on the page, but in your own voice.

Revisado: 03-15-18
Andrew Lincoln’s reading of this book was an absolute joy to listen to, but it was the beautifully dramatized 2014 Quidditch World Cup coverage that I enjoyed the most. As a long time member of Pottermore relished reading those Daily Prophet articles as they were posted back in 2014. To have this small chapter of the Harry Potter story finally produced in an audio format is something I thought I’d never see. Now if we could just get an audio adaptation of The Cursed Child.

The Redemption of a Trilogy
Revisado: 03-04-17
It's rare for me to find a pulled out of a nosedive like this one. After my disappointment with the first two books I was basically just listening to Empire's End just to be able to say I finished it. Imagine my surprise when, from very early on in this book, I actually, finally, found myself caring about what happened to these characters. This book has everything that the first two in the trilogy lacked, primarily; the original characters. While Luke remains absent through the entire story (I'm sure due to a mandate from Lucasfilm/Disney) the rest of the gang (Han, Leia, etc.) finally take a major role with the trilogy's original heroes. I wish the author had done this from the beginning, using the classic characters as the anchor to attach his newer, original, characters, as it would have built up my sympathies, making this book much more dramatic.
In the end I still found the Aftermath conclusion to be an enjoyable and satisfying story. I'll definitely be going back and replaying the whole trilogy again. Knowing how it ends might make the first two more enjoyable.
