Historia
For all its old-fashioned charm, Forbes Abbot is far from the close-knit community that ex-Londoners Mallory and Kate Lawson expected. In this village, everyday squabbles can quickly turn to murder. As the couple begins to settle into their new life away from the big city, it isn't long until they're thrown into the horror and mayhem of a true Midsomer Murders mystery. Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby has encountered many intriguing cases in his years on the force, but soon he will discover that the incident of the ghost in the machine is the most challenging of them all.

It was too creepy
Revisado: 01-09-25
It was more uncomfortably graphic and lacked the appeal of the previous books. I just felt like I wasted my time. Though the narrator is great.

Historia
When the body of a French woman washes up on a wild inlet off the Cornish coast, Brian Macalvie, the divisional commander with the Devon-Cornwall police, is called in. Who could have killed this beautiful tourist when the only visible footprints nearby belong to the two little girls who found her? While Macalvie stands stumped in the Scilly Islands, inspector Richard Jury - 20 miles away on Land’s End - is at the Old Success pub, sharing a drink with the legendary former CID detective Tom Brownell, a man renowned for solving every case he undertook - well, nearly every case....

Waste of Time
Revisado: 06-30-22
How can the author of Vértigo 42” have written such trash. I am hugely disappointed. This book was contrived, extremely hard to follow and not within the standard we have come to expect from Martha Grimes. Save your time and money.

Historia
Three months have passed since Richard Jury was left bereft and guilt- ridden after his lover's tragic auto accident, and he is now more wary than ever. He is deeply suspicious when requested on a case far out of his jurisdiction in an outlying village, where a young woman has been murdered behind the local pub. The only witness is the establishment's black cat, who gives neither crook nor clue as to the girl's identity or her killer's.

Loved the book, not the narrator
Revisado: 10-19-19
I think I’ve been spoiled by Steve West who has narrated the other Jury books I’ve purchased. I did not like this narrator though the story is great. It is a bit convoluted with the “thinking/reasoning” dog and cat.

Historia
Hailed by The New York Times as "a marvel of storytelling", The Things They Carried’s portrayal of the boots-on-the-ground experience of soldiers in the Vietnam War is a landmark in war writing. Now, three-time Emmy Award winner-Bryan Cranston, star of the hit TV series Breaking Bad, delivers an electrifying performance that walks the book’s hallucinatory line between reality and fiction and highlights the emotional power of the spoken word.

Just a great book
Revisado: 11-14-18
Don't pass up on this one. So many quirky things that mean nothing to most people but are the sustaining life force for others, especially those in a compromising life situation. Well written, well narrated and fascinating,

Not Impressed
Revisado: 11-06-18
I generally enjoyed the dramatized versions but this was not very good. They took too many liberties and changed the story so much, and the characters, that it was beginning to be unpleasant. In fact, I could not wait for it to be over.

Historia
Robbie Parsons is one of London's finest, a black cab driver who knows the city by heart. In his backseat is a man with a gun in his hand - a man who brazenly committed a crime in front of the Artemis Club then jumped in and ordered Parsons to drive. As the criminal eventually escapes to Nairobi, Detective Superintendent Richard Jury comes across the case. He knew one of the victims, a professor of astrophysics and an expert gambler. Feeling personally affronted, Jury enlists his whole gang of merry characters to contend with a case that involves Tanzanian gem mines, a closed Reno casino, and a hidden pub.

So disappointing
Revisado: 04-09-18
I was so excited that Martha Grimes’ latest Jury book had finally arrived. But it was so convoluted and implausible and I struggled to get through it. The character of Patty is charming but so improbable and the old cast of characters, the Long Pid gang, even Martha and Ruthven, seemed contrived and overreaching. This is nowhere in the caliber of Vertigo or Lamorna Wink. I do very much enjoy Steve West’s narration.
