Historia
Nina once bought into the idea that her fancy liberal arts degree would lead to a fulfilling career. When that dream crashed, she turned to stealing from rich kids in LA alongside her wily Irish boyfriend, Lachlan. Nina learned from the best: Her mother was the original con artist, hustling to give her daughter a decent childhood despite their wayward life. But when her mom gets sick, Nina puts everything on the line to help her, even if it means running her most audacious, dangerous scam yet.

This book should come with a warning.
Revisado: 04-04-24
While Brittany Pressley was excellevt as usual, there really weren’t any characters in the book to like. This is a book about incest and not just one occurrence. There is a great deal of teen sex and a lot of foul language. I can usually ignore that but this book was just creepy and should come with a warning for anyone who has had to deal with this type of abuse. I don’t regret the use of a credit but it left me feeling sad to know there are people who face this everyday.

A but boring for Carolyn Brown
Revisado: 02-01-24
Love Brittany Pressley. She did a great job with all the voices and the Combo of her a Carolyn Brown seemed promising. However I like a bit of mystery and everything was just a little too neat. For three people with seriously crappy childhood lives they cleaned up and got happy all because of a quilt?? Just a bit boring and didn’t really fall in love with any character in the book.

Historia
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

Kathleen Early only good thing in this book
Revisado: 09-15-23
I used to Love Karin Slaughter books. But this book has really no redeemable characters to like at all. Unfortunately if you wanted to not hear about the Covid and Vaccine pushing than I would avoid this book. She obviously is a liberal writer which is fine but it gets old if she checks all the boxes in the first three chapters. (Anti Vaxers, Political COO and Police are bad! while Defense attorneys "are just doing their job") Meanwhile her protagonist is a self admitted (early in the book) murderer trying to get the son of her victim off on very bad charges of rape. It was just too hard to finish this book. trying to return. so if you are not up for rooting for a bunch of degenerate people with really gross descriptions of pedophilia and rape then I say pass on this.
Kathleen Early is an excellent narrator though!

Three months after four-year-old Holly Gebhardt was kidnapped, she was inexplicably returned to the same park from which she’d vanished...with no memory of the ordeal. Though a local handyman was convicted, suspicion also fell on his friend - Holly’s mother, Cecily. The troubling doubts about her involvement shattered the family, forever driving a wedge between mother and daughter. Twenty years later, another girl goes missing under eerily similar circumstances. It’s just the latest in a series of kidnappings that Detective Jason Guidry thinks Holly can help solve.

This was not Mary’s best
Revisado: 12-15-22
I love Mary Burton’s books usually. This one was not so great but I don’t regret listening. The narrator can make or break a book and this narrators version if the main character Melina just didn’t sit right for me. Didn’t like her male voices either. The story was just ok.
