Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

I almost quit listening, so glad I didn’t!
Revisado: 12-17-24
First, I loved this narrator and will definitely seek out books narrated by her. Second, when I first started listening I thought of quitting, you have to be in the right frame of mind to read about depressive, suicidal people. But the moment Phoebe and Lilya started interacting, I fell in love with this book and all the characters, and couldn’t stop listening!

Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

I love this author and thanks to Audible I get to enjoy Lily Chu’s books for free! This is her third book and it is as delightful as her other two. I did not want it to end and will miss hearing about Wes and Nadine!

Historia
Rufus Leung Gresham, future Earl of Greshambury and son of a former Hong Kong supermodel has a problem: the legendary Gresham Trust has been depleted by decades of profligate spending, and behind all the magazine covers and Instagram stories manors and yachts lies nothing more than a gargantuan mountain of debt. The only solution, put forth by Rufus’s scheming mother, is for Rufus to attend his sister’s wedding at a luxury eco-resort, a veritable who’s-who of sultans, barons, and oligarchs, and seduce a woman with money.

Meh
Revisado: 06-30-24
I love Kevin Kwan’s books, but this was not my favorite. Not sure if it was the narration, which at times was so irritating that I had to fast forward to the next chapter or if it was the storyline, This book may be better read than listened.

Historia
Vera Wong is a lonely little old lady—ah, lady of a certain age—who lives above her forgotten tea shop in the middle of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Despite living alone, Vera is not needy, oh no. She likes nothing more than sipping on a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy detective work on the Internet about what her Gen-Z son is up to. Then one morning, Vera trudges downstairs to find a curious thing—a dead man in the middle of her tea shop.

Read this book!
Revisado: 01-09-24
As Vera Wong would say “you read this book”! And she would be right. I admit the start was a bit slow, but it didn’t take long for me to get invested in the story and the characters. It is definitely one of those books that you don’t want to end, but can’t wait to finish it - if you know what I mean. So download and listen to this book, you won’t be disappointed!

Historia
For Dee Kwan, every day is the perfect day. No, really. She has a house she loves, a job she adores, and a ridiculously attractive “nemesis” who never seems to mind when she wins their favorite online game. How can life possibly get better? (It can’t, obviously. It can only get much, much worse.) Soon Dee is forced to share her adorably cozy home with her parents and estranged grandmother. Then she’s tossed into the deep end at work, tasked with cleaning up a scandal for the intimidatingly chic luxury fashion firm Celeste. If that weren’t enough, she discovers her hot nemesis works there, too.

Historia
Alice Pendelbury believes everything in her life is pretty much in order - from her good friends to her burgeoning career. But even Alice has to admit it’s been an odd week. Not only has her belligerent neighbor, Mr. Daldry, suddenly become a surprisingly agreeable confidant, but he’s encouraging her to take seriously the fortune-teller who told her that only by traveling to Turkey can Alice meet the most important person in her life. What’s more, the peculiarly insistent Mr. Daldry has even agreed to finance Alice’s trip - one that against all reason seems to be predestined.

Don’t Give Up Listening!
Revisado: 11-07-23
A lot of reviews talk about the whispery narration. Yes it can be irritating at times, but overall there isn’t a ton of it and over she does a good job. So don’t let that steer you away from this book. It is delightful, surprising and a fully satisfactory ending!

Bloomsbury Books is an old-fashioned new and rare book store that has persisted and resisted change for a hundred years, run by men and guided by the general manager's unbreakable fifty-one rules. But in 1950, the world is changing, especially the world of books and publishing, and at Bloomsbury Books, the girls in the shop have plans.

I agree with others that this book started out a bit slow, but after awhile I couldn’t stop listening! As someone familiar with the oppression of women in the workplace, I cheered on these three wonderful women and the other women that came along. Stick with it, you won’t be disappointed!

Historia
It's 1969 and Palm Springs socialite Maxine Simmons is planning a Thanksgiving feast to rival Nixon's stealthy maneuvers in the White House and Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon. With a catered menu to die for and a dining room that looks like it's been ripped from the glossy pages of a magazine, her entrance to high society is all but assured. Then comes the humiliation of being dumped by her husband of 17 years. Banished to Arizona, the disgraced Maxine languishes in exile. But then she suddenly gets an idea of how she can win it all back.

I love reading reviews before downloading a book. With this book people either loved it or hated it. Those that hated it must not understand subtle humor! There were so many laugh out loud moments along with such tender and sweet ones that it kept my attention throughout! So if you have any sense of humor I know you will enjoy this one!!

Not my favorite
Revisado: 07-12-23
As an avid listener of audio books I can get kind of choosy. I started out liking this book, but toward the middle I had enough, fast forward to the ending and realized I didn’t miss much. I know the author said there were some historical inaccuracies, it would have been helpful to know that at the beginning instead of the end, because it was bothering me throughout! You may like this book, but it wasn’t for me!
