Historia
How did the world arrive at its current, disorienting state of identity politics, and how should the church respond? Historian Carl R. Trueman discusses how influences ranging from traditional institutions to technology and pornography moved modern culture toward an era of "expressive individualism." Investigating philosophies from the Romantics, Nietzsche, Marx, Wilde, Freud, and the New Left, he outlines the history of Western thought to the distinctly sexual direction of present-day identity politics and explains the modern implications of these ideas.

Interesting and thought-provoking
Revisado: 07-24-22
Strange New World by Carl Trueman explains a lot. He’s a wonderful narrator. He draws on philosophers from years ago, and shows how their ideas led up to the present times where feelings count for everything. That explains why we have the transgender trend, and why people are offended by others simply voicing their opinions. A wonderful book!

Rock and roll in the BC (Before Cooper) era was a tamer, milder world. In Who I Really Am, Cooper’s latest addition to Audible’s Words + Music series, we learn how the boa-wearing (not the feathered kind) maestro arrived at a show and sound - let’s call it AC for After Cooper - that has entertained millions of kids while terrifying parents in equal measure. Cooper drew inspiration from Saturday matinee horror movies, applied a "no such thing as too much" attitude, and hitched it to a kick-ass rock and roll band.

A fun listen. Love his voice and the way he tells his story. The included songs are wonderful especially since he sings them instead of screaming.

A masterpiece of an audiobook
Revisado: 12-24-20
The narration is excellent, very listenable. Out Came the Sun is good on so many levels. The writing matches up in quality to Ernest Hemingway. Mariel Hemingway is just as talented as her grandfather. She gives insights into her life and that gives the reader a glimpse into understanding the tragic lives of Ernest Hemingway and Margaux Hemingway. Her narration is perfect. Her voice is easy to listen to while still conveying all the emotion and raw feelings. Add in some humor and just enough description and background and Out Came the Sun rises to new heights in audio books! Mariel did a great job. She really put her heart and soul into this book. I loved it.

Shocking story of political mayhem
Revisado: 10-22-20
This book was more like a recounting of events rather than a story with a plot. The author reveals the shocking truth about working for the Trumps. It’s all about the inauguration and everything Stephanie the author shouldn’t have gotten mixed up in. It was all more trouble than it was worth. People in the East Wing are incompetent back stabbers. But what a tale to tell. Loved it!

"I’m James Taylor and I’m a professional autobiographer", says the celebrated folk singer at the start of this tender audio memoir. Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. Taylor says his early life is, "the source of many of my songs", and Break Shot is a tour of his first 21 years in rich, new detail.

Touching and heartfelt memoir
Revisado: 02-04-20
I loved this memoir by James Taylor about his youth up to age 21. His voice and guitar playing are superb. His talent really shines through. He gives so many insights into life that are very interesting and he makes you feel that life is good, even when you hear about all he went through. It's so interesting to hear about his mom and dad, and how they dealt with setbacks and raised their family. The saddest part was when his mom had to be a single mom for two years when his dad took off for Antarctica. I can understand that, as a dad is integral to the family, and it's hard enough when they work all day. They are never there when you need them. But all in all the Taylors are a wonderful family and James Taylor is super talented and fun to listen to. He also gives some meanings of his song lyrics. I love this memoir! It's a definite must listen. Thank you James Taylor and audible!

An interesting Hollywood story
Revisado: 02-19-19
Gretchen Bonaduce tells the story of her life and it’s gripping, funny and there is tragedy too. Gretchen narrates and hearing her tell the details makes for a mesmerizing audiobook. Danny Bonaduce has so many problems including drinking, drugs and prostitutes. Amazingly Gretchen had all this to deal with and more, and she pulled off a life of travel, friendships, children and a career in TV and music. I have to hand it to her! This is a great audiobook especially if you like memoirs.

Historia
In 1915, when a kitchen stove fire singed his sister Mabel's lashes and brows, Tom Lyle Williams watched in fascination as she performed what she called "a secret of the harem" - mixing petroleum jelly with coal dust and ash from a burnt cork and applying it to her lashes and brows. Mabel's simple beauty trick ignited Tom Lyle's imagination, and he started what would become a billion-dollar business, one that remains a viable American icon after nearly a century. He named it Maybelline in her honor.

Fantastic entertaining uplifting book
Revisado: 09-04-17
Barbara Sinatra tells her funny, heartwarming story of life with Zeppo Marx, Frank Sinatra and many other movie stars who were friends in their crowd. She tells about Judy Garland, Kirk Douglas, Prince Rainier, Princess Grace and others. She knew how to navigate life married to an entitled rich person namely Frank Sinatra, knowing what to do when they showed up for a dinner party in his honor and he decided not to go at the last minute. It makes for an interesting story, one that keeps the listener hooked to the very last chapter. The narration is excellent.
