Historia
Utilizing the linguistic insights of her “witty and brilliant” (Blyth Roberson, author of America the Beautiful?) first book Wordslut and the sociological explorations of her breakout hit Cultish, Amanda Montell now turns her erudite eye to the inner workings of the human mind and its biases in her most personal and electrifying work yet.

The Author has definitely stumbled on some very important issues in the Irrationality present in 21st Century.

Feels like a long compilation of Cosmo articles
Revisado: 11-30-24
There were interesting thought processes to consider in the book that will likely increase my sense of empathy and perhaps self-compassion as well, but the ideas strung together in this book didn’t feel cohesive.
In addition, it may contain more of the author’s personal experiences than is necessary to show the universal nature of biases. It’s understandable that the author shared her lived experiences of these biases to underline how none of us are immune to them, while it was hard to relate to a single one of those experiences as a listener. It didn’t help that the tone of the narration was particularly cloying while recounting those personal anecdotes.

Historia
Adored by her parents and pampered by the court, the infant Princess Mary’s life changes suddenly and drastically when her father’s eye is taken by the enigmatic Anne Boleyn. Mary stands firm against her father’s determination to destroy both her mother’s reputation and the Catholic church. It is a battle that will last throughout both her father’s and her brother’s reign, until she is almost broken by persecution.

Narration was distracting
Revisado: 05-03-24
It’s all personal preference, so the narrator might not irritate others, but I ended up not getting through the book because after giving it a shot I couldn’t get past the narration. However, I’m considering getting the book in paper format because it’s interesting and definitely a compassionate glimpse into Mary’s life. If you have wondered how so many people were cruelly put to death under her reign, her childhood definitely bred some major resentments that didn’t help matters..,
