Historia
It’s 1835 in Utica, New York, and newlywed Helen Galway discovers a secret: Two runaway slaves are hiding in the shack behind her husband’s house. Suddenly, she is at the center of not only the era’s greatest moral dilemma, but her own, as well. Should she be a “good wife” and report the fugitives to her husband? Or will she defy convention and come to their aid? Within her home, Helen is haunted by the previous Mrs. Galway, recently deceased but still an oppressive presence.

Good Flow to the story

An enjoyable story. The narrator did well in keeping my interest via her different tones. I hard to stop listening at times, because I wanted to know what would happen next

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Emotional Story
Revisado: 07-17-22
Tara really opens up in this story of her childhood. It’s riveting and heartbreaking. Knowing there are so many children out there living this kind of life… it blows my mind.
Religion which can be a hope to some, can be so dangerous when it falls into the hands of the mentally ill.

Historia
Throughout history, women have played integral roles in family, society, religion, government, war - in short, in all aspects of human civilization. Powerful women have shaped laws, led rebellions, and played key roles in dynastic struggles. Some were caught up in forces beyond their control, while others manipulated and murdered their way to the top. However, unearthing their stories from the historical record has been a challenge, with the ordinary difficulties of preserving information across the generations increased by centuries of historical bias and gendered expectations.

Informative and interesting
Revisado: 08-23-20
While I did enjoy this audio book I was very disappointed that there was no mention of women from African nations that would represent as Black. There are so many women that could have been mentioned. The author dropped the ball on this so I had to drop stars. However it was narrated nicely and I would listen to a chapter each night before bed as a way to relax my mind and learn something. I do recommend this audiobook, just felt she needed to do better.

Cheese puffs. Coffee. Sunscreen. Vapes. George Zaidan reveals what will kill you, what won’t, and why - explained with high-octane hilarity, hysterical hijinks, and other things that don’t begin with the letter H. Ingredients offers the perspective of a chemist on the stuff we eat, drink, inhale, and smear on ourselves. Apart from the burning question of whether you should eat that Cheeto, Zaidan explores a range of topics.

I truly enjoyed this book. It was well written and also quirky at times which kept your interest despite all the scientific jargon. The authors performance was great! I felt like we were chatting over a glass of wine and ended up smarted for it.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. Bernie Mac was definitely one of the greatest but taken from us too soon. I felt like he told me his story from beyond the grave and it was real and his journey inspiring. I wish t didn’t have to end. Great performance and a pleasure to hear his voice again. I highly recommend it.

Where does The Five Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
My first Audiobook with Audible. It was good. I learned a lot but I would have preferred if the author didn't narrate
Who was your favorite character and why?
No Characters. This was self help.
What didn’t you like about Gary Chapman’s performance?
His southern drawl. I would have preferred a more neutral tone of voice. I felt like I was listening to doctor Phil
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
The Five languages and how to apply them to my life. Which one I identified with and who my mate was.
