Historia
In the 1970s, while their contemporaries were protesting the computer as a tool of dehumanization and oppression, a motley collection of college dropouts, hippies, and electronics fanatics were engaged in something much more subversive. Obsessed with the idea of getting computer power into their own hands, they launched from their garages a hobbyist movement that grew into an industry, and ultimately a social and technological revolution.

Glazes more than a donut factory.
Revisado: 04-16-20
The pre-PC days were interesting, but once we got into the PC era, the focus was far too much on Apple, IBM, and Microsoft. Yes, these are important, but I lived through the 80s, and there were other PC company histories to be given more than just a glaze covering. I'm not satisfied with this book.

Historia
Science fiction allows us to go places we can only dream of seeing - other worlds, distant stars, entirely different galaxies. While not every story is concerned with the hard science behind space travel and other futuristic ventures, fiction can give us amazing insight into what we could be capable of and what we dream of doing. In these 10 lectures, Professor Erin Macdonald interweaves real science and the achievements of the imagination to reveal the truth that underlies our favorite stories and sheds light on what the future may hold.

A look at not only how science fiction has affects science but a discussion on the limitations of scientific law when it comes to science fiction ideas. Lecturer's presentation was also very engaging.

A great primer on conservative thought and why we think and believe what we do. My only complaint is that Levin didn't read it himself.

Historia
What can the call to discipleship, the adherence to the word of Jesus, mean today to the businessman, the soldier, the laborer, or the aristocrat? What did Jesus mean to say to us? What is his will for us today? Drawing on the Sermon on the Mount, Dietrich Bonhoeffer answers these timeless questions by providing a seminal reading of the dichotomy between "cheap grace" and "costly grace."

Wish I could score it higher.
Revisado: 06-08-11
As an historian and a Bible believer, I respect Pastor Bonhoeffer, how he lived as an unwavering Christian in Nazi Germany, and how he gave his life for his Lord.
This book, however, is simply a commentary on the Sermon on the Mount. He makes some very good points, and it is worth the listen, but I expected something different.

God and Sex

Historia
An examination of sex and the Bible by one of the leading biblical scholars in the United States. For several decades, Michael Coogan's introductory course on the Old Testament has been a perennial favorite among students at Harvard University. In God and Sex, Coogan examines one of the most controversial aspects of the Hebrew Scripture: What the Old Testament really says about sex, and how contemporary understanding of those writings is frequently misunderstood or misrepresented.

foolishness
Revisado: 06-08-11
One of the first things he says is that the Bible is not God's Word, so it is dishonest for him to call his book "God and Sex." Secondly, he looks for sexual innuendo in the Bible where there is none to try to prove his points.
Guess what, Dr. Coogan, yes "feet" in ancient Israel could have been a reference to sexual organs, but guess what??? Feet can also mean feet!!!! What a revelation. Dying at someone's feet (Judges 5:25-27) doesn't mean that the person was killed while having sex! Yes, listener, this is the kind of laughable foolishness you will hear in this book.
This book was mistitled, a bait and switch. Instead of hearing what the Bible says about sex, I get to listen to a Bible-denier try to use the Bible to justify sin.
I implore fellow Christians NOT to waste your money or credits on this tripe. I want my credit back!!

You've heard of the "Great Books"? These are their evil opposites. From Machiavelli's The Prince to Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto to Alfred Kinsey's Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, these "influential" books have led to war, genocide, totalitarian oppression, family breakdown, and disastrous social experiments. And yet these authors' bad ideas are still popular and pervasive. Here with the antidote is Professor Benjamin Wiker.
