Mavericks continues the great series but introduces a new concept, the Mavericks and its wonderful. Great performance by RC Bray as always. Keep em coming.

Mr. Weir does a great job of developing the world, bringing it to life and setting the scene. The concept of Artemis is great and the setting will make for a good movie with CGI.

However, that is in stark contrast to the characters, they are two dimensional and with little in the way of character development. All the characters except Svoboda are pretty unlikeable, the rest feel shallow and rushed.

The story line is bit all over the place, the flashback technique is actually pretty good and for the most part used well, but can feel a bit forced at times. The protagonists constant setbacks and hap hazard approach to everything is a bit annoying and the last 3rd of the book was quite a chore to get through.

The best part of the audiobook was Rosario Dawson's narration, she brought so much life into the story and without the narration I probably would not have finished the book.

Artemis feels like a good concept with a rushed implementation, perhaps intended more as something to be adapted as a screenplay. I actually hope that will happen, I think this story can be adapted and be given much more life on the screen than what exists in the form of a novel.

The book started out pretty slow, stories from the Admiral's childhood, but it builds a picture and provides interesting insight into his childhood and a small insight into what molded him. The rest of the book is gripping, I loved it and my only complaint is that it felt like it ended too early. I feel like the Admiral probably has a whole lot more to share so I will have to read his other books. I was not aware that he was the planner of the Bin Laden raid, thrilling insider account.

The narration is excellent for an amateur. McRaven has a good, measured voice.

I didn't want the book to end. It was an amazing slice of history from three different perspectives. Three incredible heroes and three incredible histories. If you have even the slightest interest in aviation and/or history, this is a must read.

The book is well written and researched, detailed without being boring. The author does a good job of noting contradictions or unfounded claims. The narrator does a great job too,

What I disliked was the author’s religious bias showing up in what should be a mostly scientific book. On a few occasions he references Islam in a less than favorable light. He also takes a stab at atheism. The author seems pretty full of himself.

It also took some time to get used to the narrator, he sounds like that movie trailer voice in the beginning but you need to just bear it for the first 30 mins or so and it should stop bothering you.

Overall the story was good. It had some slight contractions to two other books on nuclear subjects I have read recently: “The general and the genius” as well as “Idaho Falls”, had some minor contractions but nothing major.

The book was brilliant. Having Dave narrate it was a real treat and his narration is the best I have ever heard - probably easier when it’s your own story and you have a studio at home to record in.

If you are even remotely a fan of Dave or the Foos then this is a must listen.

If I had one criticism of the book is the lack of in depth down dirty details. It’s no Herion Diaries, a lot more PG and the Nirvana years are glossed over pretty quickly. This might be out of respect for Kurt or the truce with Courtney. Or maybe Dave just wants a PG book his kids can read. Maybe we will get a book dedicated to the Nirvana era but this by no means detracts from this book.

The book is such high quality, with Dave composing original music he plays between chapters.

Steve is not only a talented mechanic, clearly evident from his rise to Formula 1 mechanic, but a talented story teller. Life in the Fast Lane is a first hand account of the 1994 Formula 1 season, a particularly newsworthy season, filled with death, scandal, punishment and perseverance. Steve has a way of eloquently and so charmingly describing the events from his perspective - witty and comedic where appropriate. His sense of humor is a great asset to his story telling without being overwhelming or detracting from the details.

A thoroughly entertaining listen, will definitely buy more of his books.

This is a fascinating account of the U2 incident. As someone quite familiar with the event, the insiders perspective this book provides is a real treat. Unexpectedly well written and structured book. I don’t have any particular dislikes other than some sensitive information being withheld as during the time of writing some items that have since been declassified were still classified at the time. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in cold war history or insights into prison life in Russia.
