Historia
On September 13, 2016, in the small town of Ashland, Ohio, emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from a terrified woman who claimed to be kidnapped. The man holding her hostage was Shawn Grate, a serial killer whom the press later dubbed “The Ladykiller.” A key to his conviction and death sentence were Grate’s extensive recorded confessions—all extracted by one woman: Detective Kim Mager.

Mainly about the detective and her life.
Revisado: 12-21-24
There was very little about the actual crime. It was primarily about the entire life of the detective who investigated. I’m sure she is a brilliant detective, but that’s not why I got this book.

So convoluted!
Revisado: 11-29-24
The story went back and forth in time so frequently that I had a very hard time figuring out what was happening and when. I did manage to finish it but it was hard to press on.

Too many religious references rormy taste
Revisado: 09-17-24
I realize this takes place in the south, but for me, there were far too many religious references and relying on the magic of religion to save their lives.

Narrator ruined it
Revisado: 07-30-24
This might have been a decent story if read by a narrator who had some expressiveness to his voice and who could do female voices that didn’t sound like they were being strangled.

Forty-two-year-old Mia Thorne is not living her best life. After a disastrous career-and-relationship-ending event, she escapes New York City and moves to a sleepy river town in Pennsylvania, courtesy of a dead aunt she never knew. Aunt Hazel was the reclusive family nut, a self-proclaimed psychic. Of course, Mia’s dad always told her that she, too, had the gift, but after his death, her mother made sure to squelch the notion. When Mia stumbles over a body in the overgrown garden, the newcomer catches the eye of the police chief and his hotshot detective, Derek Fairfax.

Historia
It all started with a simple, yet sneakily difficult challenge from global best-selling author Harlan Coben: Pick a bird of prey, then use it as the inspiration for a brand-new story. The response from some of the best writers on the planet: Game on! The result: Eleven stories that are twisty, scary, surprising and bursting with imagination. An egg worth more than its weight in gold. A mysterious operative known only as Owl. An eagle-watcher who sees more than she should. Even a story that somehow places the Maltese Falcon in a nursing home.

Meh….
Revisado: 09-04-23
A couple of the stories were excellent and well read, but a couple of them were also extremely bad and poorly narrated. The rest were just OK. The ones that I truly enjoyed most I would love to see longer stories from but for the most part it’s pretty forgettable.

Good story, awful writing
Revisado: 03-17-23
The story itself was good and worth telling but but was written so poorly that it made me laugh at times. But it could also be that the narration was so bad that it made the writing sound amateurish.

Historia
See the rain forests...northern beauty, misted nights. Come to Lighthouse Island.... In the coming centuries, the world's population has exploded and covered the Earth with endless cities. Animals are nearly all gone. Drought plagues the land and cloudy water is issued by the quart. There are no maps, no borders, no numbered years. On this urban planet the only relief from the overcrowding, the petty informers, and the harsh rule of the big Agencies is the television in every living space, offering dreams of vanished waterfalls and the promise of virtual vacations in green spaces for the lucky few.

I just couldn’t finish it.
Revisado: 02-01-23
I tried at least three times to get all the way through this book but simply was not able to do it. I lost interest with about four hours still to go. The writing is beautiful. It’s almost as if you’re reading a poem despite the subject matter. But I just couldn’t get into it enough to care how it ended.
