Historia
Come inside a jury room as one juror leads a starkly divided room to consensus. Join a young CIA officer as he recruits a reluctant foreign agent. And sit with an accomplished surgeon as he tries, and fails, to convince yet another cancer patient to opt for the less risky course of treatment. In Supercommunicators, Charles Duhigg blends deep research and his trademark storytelling skills to show how we can all learn to identify and leverage the hidden layers that lurk beneath every conversation.

Historia
Forty years ago, following the appointment of their professors to the federal bench, a tiny group of conservative law students at Yale Law School worried that their ideas might disappear from intellectual discourse in this bastion of liberal thought. They set out to fill that void. But they ended up achieving way more than that. Over the next few decades, the Federalist Society became an integral tool in the larger conservative movement, with political, judicial, and social repercussions ending in the conservative capture of the Supreme Court and the election of Donald Trump to the presidency.

Masterful investigative reporting
Revisado: 12-24-23
First, I was very impressed that this was not a political headpiece from one side or the other
So often these days, a piece is written from one angle, or the other design to appeal to one side or the other. Few investigative journalism pieces appear to be neutral, attempting to peel back the layers of what happened.
This piece did that.
second, 40 years of history into this compact of reading was very impressive. It was concise. It was brief, and it was also clear. I am sure the volumes could be written about these 40 years this podcast will really hit the spot for anyone who wants a summary.

Historia
People from different walks of life all want the same thing: success. Some are lucky enough to be at a position where they can easily realize their goals in life. Others, though, are not so fortunate. For most people, achieving success means making a lot of sacrifices. Sometimes these sacrifices pay off, and one's goals are met. In other times, however, success slips past, regardless if one has paid his dues, so to speak.

Should be called ‘A Brief overview of how our minds work’
Revisado: 04-04-23
There is NO ACTIONABLE INFORMATION unless you didn’t know that you can meditate by breathing in and out.
Also, there are no ‘secrets’ unless the reader has never read about how the kind works.
The information is solid. However, the title is click bait and the author, who has some solid books out there, I have never seen stoop to this marketing technique.
The book is best described as a solid Wikipedia article about ways to influence one’s mind, from meditation to affirmations to positive self talk. Very routine stuff.
It’s short enough to be a Wikipedia article too. If the title was more accurate and less sensationalized it would be a 4 star.

Is a rough draft, has potential though
Revisado: 12-17-22
this must be a rough draft. I don’t know if they just haven’t uploaded the final version.
The narrator makes multiple mistakes, keeps repeating the same sentence attempting to correct it. The narrator states the words over and over till he gets it right. That was the first clue that this is a draft.
The author appears to have multiple drafts of the same paragraph. The narrator will read the same paragraph two or three times with slight differences in it. There are many, many, MANY incomplete sentences. Also, the author repeats things multiple times within a chapter as if they had drafted it, had not decided what to cut out or how try o put everything together.
I'm sure the author has lots of information, one this version is edited could be very beneficial.
Until then, read a wiki articles about it.

Members of the military’s special operations branches share a closely guarded secret: They love their jobs. They relish the opportunity to fight. They are thankful for it, even, and hopeful that maybe they’ll get to kill a bunch of bad guys while they’re at it. You don’t necessarily need to thank them for their service - the pleasure is all theirs. In this hilarious and personal memoir, listeners ride shotgun alongside former Army Ranger and private military contractor and current social media phenomenon Mat Best, into the action and its aftermath, both abroad and at home.

A pleasant, knock your pants off, surprise!
Revisado: 10-20-22
Wow. So surprised I liked this so much.
Not your typical wrap yourself in the flag, beat your chest kind of story.
This is a down to earth, pull back the curtain and talk frankly kind of story.
There is cursing, there is sh*t talking, there calling people out. Most of all this is lots of humility on what ‘mistakes’ the author did and what was learned. Also, this is not PC! He speaks from his heart and that comes with some thick skin stuff. He talks about killing, fucking and drinking.
He also talks about brotherhood, camaraderie, and struggles. This is an entertaining book, along with some lessons. It leaves off with him starting his entrepreneurial life. Hope he comes back with an equally entertaining story about those lessons.

Short and straight to the points
Revisado: 09-12-21
This book is what many authors would make into a 7 hour book.
I appreciate that this author gave the info, the action steps, a couple examples and then moved on.
This would be even better worth a pdf of them skills she discussed.
Listen to it weekly to build the habits.

Great lessons even if not believable
Revisado: 05-19-21
This is a really fun listen and worth taking some notes. It's like an audio version of a play. Is missing the normal pieces of a book. The details that a book has but s movie is missing. Yet, it was a very entertaining read.
It's hard to imagining having to sit thru a movie with your eyes closed, yet that's essentially what happened here.
I think i will go listen to the book now.

Unconditional Parenting

Historia
One basic need all children have, educator Alfie Kohn argues, is to be loved unconditionally, to know that they will be accepted even if they screw up or fall short. Yet conventional approaches to parenting such as punishments (including "time outs"), rewards (including positive reinforcement), and other forms of control teach children that they are loved only when they please us or impress us. Kohn cites a body of powerful and largely unknown research detailing the damage caused by leading children to believe they must earn our approval.

1st half 5 stars | 2nd half is 3 stars
Revisado: 09-23-20
This book is tough to rate.
It’s very well thought out. The author backs up 90% of his claims with studies.
I ended the first half agreeing that unconditional love is better for kids and parents then negative or positive rewards.
Basically intrinsic motivation is better then extrinsic motivation.
The book gives plenty of examples of actions and why they are harmful. Some I can relate to.
Part II was spared to explain what to do. This is where the details where missing. Very light on the details of what parents should be doing. It
Is unfortunate. If the author would have taken his examples in part I and given examples of how to solve them with this method, that would have been great. There were some examples, they need more development.
It’s a great book that I would read again.
Know that you are on your own for developing solutions.
I hope the author does a v2 with more explanation.

Amazing much needed book on validation
Revisado: 09-05-20
This is really an amazing much needed book on a core skill everyone should have, validation in conversations.
I hope the author continues to explore this subject and expand on this book.
The only thing about this book, it could be twice as long with more examples.
The trouble with books like this is the application. For some applying the methods are easy, for some of us, it’s hard to come up with words that describe.
That is the only thing I was left wanting was more examples.

In Across That Bridge, Congressman John Lewis draws from his experience as a prominent leader of the civil rights movement to offer timeless wisdom, poignant recollections, and powerful principles for anyone interested in challenging injustices and inspiring real change toward a freer, more peaceful society. The civil rights movement gave rise to the protest culture we know today, and the experiences of leaders like Congressman Lewis, a close confidant to Martin Luther King, Jr., have never been more relevant.

Listening to this book gives the reader a deep understanding of what it was like to be a hate Blackman during segregation.
The thing that made the biggest impact on me was his hope and faith in people to change.
