Dr. Robert Glover has dubbed the "Nice Guy Syndrome" trying too hard to please others while neglecting one's own needs, thus causing unhappiness and resentfulness. It's no wonder that unfulfilled Nice Guys lash out in frustration at their loved ones, claims Dr. Glover.

I thought maybe I was broken but now I think maybe "broken" is just a mindset and you guys need to stuff your sorry's in a sack and focus on smiling at the little things.
But maybe it has a lot more to offer you?

Historia
Nobody blows smoke like Nick Naylor. He’s a spokesman for the Academy of Tobacco Studies - in other words, a flack for cigarette companies, paid to promote their product on talk and news shows. The problem? He’s so good at his job, so effortlessly unethical, that he’s become a target for both anti-tobacco terrorists and for the FBI. In a country where half the people want to outlaw pleasure and the other want to sell you a disease, what will become of Nick Naylor?

Short and Captivating
Revisado: 01-05-23
It’s short and captivating, I had to double and later triple check that I hadn’t gotten the abridged version.
Better than the movie in most ways but not all (the modernized references for one).
I didn’t use a credit, I paid a few bucks and don’t regret them.

What she uncovers sends shock waves through the corridors of power. The NSA is being held hostage…not by guns or bombs but by a code so complex that if released would cripple U.S. intelligence. Caught in an accelerating tempest of secrecy and lies, Fletcher battles to save the agency she believes in.

Get over yourself and enjoy the plot.
Revisado: 11-30-22
Okay so I read this first years ago when it was released, and I just went back and listened to it for the first time in years. Since the original reading, I have earned a degree in computer science, and the technology discussed in the story has come a long way. But, not far enough to make the story impossible. If you are educated in the field more than the average listener, AND if you cannot suspend your disbelief for a few hours to enjoy the plot, then this may not be for you.
However, if you can turn off your curmudgeon attempts to disprove the technology in the story you will fall in love with the twists and turns that Dan Brown has once again researched to the point of feeling like you are being guided through a world that exists completely out of view of the unknowing public.

Absolutly Hillarius and entertaining.
Revisado: 11-30-22
I have always enjoyed Will Forte (for the most part). This is by far the funniest and most on-character performance I have ever experienced from him. I would help crowd-fund a sequel. We listened to this as a family (it has a few cringy parts but nothing over the top IMO) while on a road trip and everyone enjoyed it thoroughly.
I would highly recommend you enjoy the comedy of a short story told through narrative.
Honestly It feels like it belongs in a totally different genre of story I will call "Sci-Fi Comedy of Errors", if you enjoyed Avenue 5 (on HBO) or Spaceforce (Netflix) you will likely crack up over this story as well.

A short story to fill in some timeline.
Revisado: 11-30-22
If you are reading through the series then you should NOT skip this one, otherwise, it probably does not do much on its own. In addition, it was short, painfully short. And now I am left waiting for more storylines from any of the (I think 4) different characters/sets and story arcs.

Historia
Having discovered her true heritage, young Gatina is embracing her evolving role as an apprentice shadowthief. It turns out procuring things that don’t actually belong to you can be rather exciting. But the first thing a good thief must learn is how to not get caught. If the evil usurper Count Vichetral snares Gatina or her beloved family, a truly unpleasant fate awaits. So her defiant father has deposited Gatina and her brother in the last place Vichetral’s men would think to look for them: stately Palomar Abbey.

A great entry in a standalone series...
Revisado: 11-30-22
I love the main storyline, and I really enjoyed Minnerlands apprentice's time away for their education.
This is essentially the same story but with heists and subterfuge rather than combat strategy.
This was definitely worth the listen and should help tide me over a bit before the next release. I would especially recommend this series for a younger and potentially female audience, but I think there is a natural progression into the main series from there.

Fantastic and Inspirational
Revisado: 05-01-18
Right before the election I graduated from a University that was in the throws of the conflict Milo speaks about. Too small to attract Milo to our humble mountain town but large enough to face the violence of a liberal mob.
Milo gives me hope that this is a phase for society and a tipping point. I have already written my university to let them know that I will not be donating until something is done to restore free speech to every member of the university.
Do your part as well, and start by reading this dangerous book.

A little slower, but worth the read
Revisado: 09-12-17
This series is worth the read if you enjoy the genre. Dean Cadman puts his own interesting style and elements of fantasy into the story giving it a fresh feel that stays within the comfortable confines of the genre that fans of dragons and magic have come to expect. Early awaiting number four.

Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Revisado: 09-01-17
I far prefer Ready Player One to this, and will eagerly anticipate his next work. This one just fell short of the captivating story his first work achieved. It is worth a read, and held my attention for the most part, but just fell short. It may well be that I made the mistake of two video game based stories back-to-back.

A must read for dog owners
Revisado: 06-02-16
I read/listened to this book once before selecting my puppy and once at about 1 week in (7 weeks old for the puppy). I will likely listen again in a month or two. I have not had a young dog in about 10 years now and I must say that while all of my dogs have been happy, healthy, and balanced; I have already seen that this book provides an easier and more direct path to that outcome. I have owned 2 to 3 dogs my whole life, practiced careful training for each of them; and still I gained a mountain of knowledge from this book. If you have or are about to bring home a young dog than this is a must read. It can be difficult to stick to your plan for training once you see that adorable puppy face, but the way this book presents the information is just enough to remind you why there is no time to be lost in training your dog and establishing the correct type of energy between you two.
