Historia
In 1985, Charles Ng and Leonard Lake were spotted shoplifting. Ng escaped, but Lake's capture led police to a concrete bunker in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where they discovered the grisly evidence of an orgy of sex crimes, torture, and murder that claimed at least 16 victims. Lake committed suicide: Ng fled to Canada, where he was tracked down and extradited to California. This 14-year, $10 million legal case was the costliest and longest criminal prosecution in California history.

Revisado: 01-11-24
I’ve listened to 100 true crime audiobooks. This book actually made me cry, that’s rare. It’s such a horrific and heartbreaking story. So unnecessary these murders. It makes me SICK that Charles the rapist and murderer of men, women and babies is still alive on death row. California needs to look at cars like this and know he deserves death! These poor families who are left to deal with the deaths and even worse what happened to them. Not just death but torture in some cases. Very in depth book and the first time I ever heard of this story.

I didn’t buy this to hear about her life story and her career path. I thought it was all about the murdaughs. So beware! I can’t even finish it. I’m returning it today. She also talks way too much about “white” people, and how privileged they are and how bad cops are. Just an fyi

Historia
Serial killer Gary Heidnik's name will live on in infamy, and his home, 3520 North Marshall Street in Philadelphia, is a house tainted with the memory of unbelievable horrors. What police found there was an incredible nightmare made real. Four young women had been held captive - some for four months - half-naked and chained. They had been tortured, starved, and repeatedly raped. But more grotesque discoveries lay in the kitchen: human limbs frozen, a torso burned to cinders, an empty pot suspiciously scorched....

Entertaining story
Revisado: 06-20-23
As far as the one review , I didn’t even know the cop that didn’t do his job fully was black. But yeah he definitely didn’t do what he should have. But he was a rookie so, not surprising. Many people failed along the way. They didn’t blame that cop, but he could have done better!
What I got out of it, if people want to talk about race, an all white jury, (that’s how the defense wanted it) and they sentenced him to death., a white man who preyed on black women. They definitely got it right! The narrator didn’t bother me. I thought he did fine. It kept me interested the entire time. That’s all I can ask for! Great book!

Wow best book I’ve listened to in a long time
Revisado: 05-05-23
The story is very hard to listen to at times, because of how John got away with his evil ways. The cops failed and the justice system failed both his wives and mainly his innocent baby girls. John is the worst person I’ve ever heard about. Thankfully he was executed and is no longer able to abuse anyone. But too little to late to be honest. They got justice but at what cost? He was finally stopped but it took way too long. But the book was very well written. Only thing I didn’t love was the voice when poor Mary Jane cried and found out her husband shot her girls. Could’ve been a little better. But still amazing book, even though it’s probably the most tragic book. Close to Jeff Macdonald in Fatal vison. 2 narcissist freaks

Historia
By all accounts, Thomas Gilbert Jr. led a charmed life. The son of a wealthy hedge fund manager and a financier, he grew up surrounded by a loving family and all the luxury an Upper East Side childhood could provide: education at the elite Buckley School and Deerfield Academy, summers in a sprawling seaside mansion in the Hamptons. He was strikingly handsome, moving with ease through glittering social circles and following in his father's footsteps to Princeton. But Tommy always felt different, and the cracks in his façade began to show.

Obvious spoiled rich boy who thought he was above the law!
Revisado: 04-13-23
Great book. Kept me listening throughout, no boring parts. I think Tommy has some mental issues. But doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be held responsible for murdering his own father! Especially a father who did a lot for him, and tried to help him. Tommy and his mother have a very unhealthy relationship. She spoiled him even more, making constant excuses for the guy. He was 30 and still being supported by his parents!! Pathetic! She still was making excuses for him even after he killed her husband!! She needs to get some mental help. She enabled his spoiled behavior and never should’ve left him alone with her husband. Such a sad story. After he did that to his friend Peter, the guy should’ve been made to stay at a mental hospital or jail. His court antics proved he was used to getting his way! He finally got held accountable for his ignorance. I’m sorry I don’t feel sorry for him. He’s a spoiled rich entitled brat

In this fascinating account, Ann Rule delivers a tour de force: a whirlwind of misguided love, denial, guilt, and passions out of control; a series of brilliantly manipulated crimes; the bizarre and horrifying tale of two families brought to ruin; and, at the center of it all, the heartless, supremely selfish sociopath whose evil hid behind soft words and gentle manners, but who destroyed—without mercy—those who loved her.

Love the book. But she talked way too much about how attractive and big breasted Pat was. But Pat is a disgusting witch. I still have 10 hrs left to listen to. But it’s definitely worth a listen! I listen to audible books for hours because of the type of work I do. Pat is evil and a liar. Crazy story though and obviously very thorough, it’s a 20 hour book! Oh and I googled Pat and she isn’t that attractive lol

Historia
The tragic death of 13-year-old Danny Croteau in 1972 faded from headlines and memories for 20 years until the Boston abuse scandal - a string of assaults taking place within the Catholic Church - exploded in the early 2000s. Despite numerous indications, including 40 claims of sexual misconduct with minors, pointing to him as Croteau's killer, Reverend Richard R. Lavigne remains "innocent." Drawing on more than ten thousand pages of police and court findings and interviews with Danny's friends and family, fellow abuse victims, and church officials, the author uncovers the truth.

A story, while horrific, that needs to be heard!
Revisado: 07-22-22
Anyone putting this book down because they’re defending the Catholic Church, Just stop please. This book is calling out sick priests who hurt innocent children! Mainly Lavigne, a truly disturbed pedophile, rapist and murderer. Sorry that people take offense to the TRUTH! So many people ignored the priest pedophilia issue in the Catholic Church. And we still today see confused people feel the need to defend the church. Obviously not every Catholic Church is bad. But this story just speaks the truth. Sorry if you see that as bashing the Catholic Church. When I listen to this it just makes me so angry how kids were ignored but literally EVERYONE! Even their parents in some cases. It’s a very good book that isn’t scared to speak the truth, even if that truth is evil and sick. Very well researched. But it is very detailed in what Lavigne did to the kids. So be ready to hear or read some sick stuff! I’m glad Lavigne is dead and I’m sure he’s in Hell now, he apparently thinks he’s in heaven. Highly doubtful! Even though God does forgive, I just doubt this guy ever became truly saved.

Historia
In the Name of the Children gives an unflinching look at what it's like to fight a never-ending battle against an enemy far more insidious than terrorists: the predators, lurking amongst us, who seek to harm our children. During his 30-year career with the FBI, Jeff Rinek worked hundreds of investigations involving crimes against children: from stranger abduction to serial homicide to ritualized sexual abuse. Those who do this kind of work are required to plumb the depths of human depravity, to see things no one should ever have to see - and once seen can never forget.

Kept my attention but never easy to listen about crime against kids
Revisado: 02-15-22
I don’t think the narrator was as bad as others said.
The only issue I have is how the writer almost feels bad for the murderer Stayner. Screw that guy! Sure he gave his confession but he’s a pedophile rapist and killer!! He took many innocent lives I don’t know what it’s like to do what this man does, and I think the author is a good man. But just hard to listen to him when he gives the evil killer credit for confessing. Stayner was abused and had a hard life, but I don’t care, he did evil things and doesn’t deserve anything good being said about him. But other than that, it is a good book if you can deal with crimes against kids.

Way too much talk about her having unprotected sex and how she’s a sex addict. She also seems a bit narcissistic, brings up multiple times how people tell her she’s good looking. Also I don’t love listening to people say the F word throughout the book. Too Vulgar for me. She said she didn’t have an STD but that’s hard to believe if she had sex through Tinder.
I think some of the stuff is made up. I can’t seem to find any more memoir type books that I love. Just disappointed and too much talk about sex and gross men.
