Historia
Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Surprised how much I liked this
Revisado: 12-15-24
I started the book with a preconceived idea of where it was going. But was I wrong, and glad I kept listening!

Historia
Who is Audrey Hoedemaker? It's a question her sister Maureen has heard more times than she can count, and she doesn't know what the short answer would be. Little sister, troubled teen, backpacker, musical theatre coach, con artist, childcare worker. Murderer. A tragic, traumatic childhood casts a long shadow on the Hoedemaker sisters. Maureen has worked hard to move beyond the violence of the past and build a good, honest life for herself. Audrey, however, just can't seem to do the same, careening from one state of chaos to another.

Loved the plot and performance!
Revisado: 12-13-24
I love psychological twists but never saw this one coming! I loved the journey it took me on, and the narrator had me engaged from the start

Historia
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Disappointing plot
Revisado: 12-04-24
The story had so much potential. Although it seemed unnecessarily long, I kept going because I imagined a cleverly delicious psychological twist at the end. But the ending was disappointing and ridiculous. Narration was great though.

Bizarre plot, great narration
Revisado: 07-21-24
If not for the narration, the plot and protagonist would have killed off any hope of redemption. The character was unlikeable and annoying, but not in an ironic tongue in cheek way. At no point was I rooting for her, so I finished the book out of sheer curiosity.

Okay if you like supernatural occult fiction
Revisado: 06-30-24
I can appreciate the thoughtful approach to controversial social issues of the day, and the narration was 100% excellent. The plot wasn’t for me; I didn’t expect a tale of the supernatural/occult.

Historia
A window is but a piece of glass through which we view the world outside. It is not meant to distort. It is not intended to do anything but show us things as they are. At Oxford, though, there is a very particular window that reveals a very particular view. It is a view that defies all laws of nature and science. And when a detective is called in to investigate, he is startled to find that view opens a window into his own life–and a mystery he has never been able to solve.

As someone just starting in this business, despite the fact that I paid thousands for a course, there was so much value Peter provided that I DIDN’T know I needed to know. If you’re comparing book reviews like I did, and you’re new to the industry, go ahead and get this one. You’ll thank me later!
