Historia
Despite the uncomfortably claustrophobic quarters and rapidly dropping temperature, Christa believes they'll be safe as they wait out the storm. She couldn't be more wrong. Deep in the night, their tour guide goes missing...only to be discovered the following morning, his severed head impaled on a tree outside the cabin. Terrified, and completely isolated by the storm, Christa finds herself trapped with eight total strangers. One of them kills for sport...and they're far from finished.

Confused by all the hype…
Revisado: 01-02-25
This book is fine. I didn’t love it but it’s also not the worst I’ve ever read. I think I would have liked it better though if I didn’t see so much praise for it ahead of time.
At best it felt like a pretty run of the mill thriller but I found a lot of it to be pretty repetitive and one note. I was constantly rewinding because I was spacing off.

My favorite book this year
Revisado: 10-10-24
I’ve been watching Ina with my mom since I was a kid. I’m a huge fan. It was so fun to see a different side of her in this book.
Such a hilarious, intelligent, business minded, woman. Her humor and love for food are so evident here. And her love for Jeffery had a smile on my face every time she talked about him.
I loved this book.

I’d love to list some positives here but I really didn’t like this book at all. Finally did myself a favor and stopped listening with 2 hours left. I tried.
The reader did a good job. That’s all I’ve got.

The best-known secret in the city, Jane is an underground health clinic composed entirely of women helping women, empowering them to embrace their futures by offering reproductive counseling and safe, illegal abortions. When she’s not at Jane, Veronica plays the role of a conventional housewife—a juggling act that becomes even more difficult during her own high-risk pregnancy.

Good book but..
Revisado: 09-09-24
I loved so much about this book. The characters and the historical elements especially. So thankful for all of the brave women who fought so hard for reproductive rights.
My complaint about this book was mostly the pacing. There were long portions that didn’t seem to have much plot development. Would have loved a quicker pace.

She gets “creative” listing her qualifications and answers the ethnicity question on applications with a lie—a half-lie, technically. Fell in love with these characters, flaws and all.
I was planning to give this book a 4 star for the humor, characters and story. And then I got to the steamy scenes and decided to give it a 5.
Fun read.

Too much weird groomer stuff..
Revisado: 06-11-24
I really was hesitant to start this series because it didn’t seem like my thing. So I was surprised at how quickly I loved it… and then I was annoyed at how quickly I didn’t love it again.
SPOILERS:
The lead character falls in love with, for all intents and purposes, his adopted brother he has known since they were 16 and 10 respectively. The author then goes out of his way to start their relationship when they are 23 and 17 for some reason.
The book is then filled with actual things groomers say to justify their actions like “he wants it too” “he’s mature for his age” “he grew up fast” “he’s actually the dominant one” “his family is cool with it” “nothing physical has happened YET” “he’s the one pursuing me” and the silliest, “things are different for werewolves.”
Well I’m not a werewolf so I thought it was weird.
Add to this the the reason this 17 year old boy “had to grow up fast” is because he was literally tortured and SAed at a very young age and it makes it even more creepy that his adult brother figure began “dating” him.
There were so many other ways this story could have dealt with an age gap (having them closer in age, having them not act like family members, having them begin dating later in the story, etc) so the fact that this is the route that was chosen is deliberate and weird.
I’ve seen so many 5 star reviews that don’t mention this at all and that’s concerning..

No thank you
Revisado: 06-07-24
I really tried to love this book. I didn’t succeed.
This was nowhere near the worst book I’ve ever read but there were enough things that didn’t work for me that I just really didn’t enjoy reading this.
I understand complicated characters, character arcs and enemies to lovers tropes, but this just felt like two gay men treating each other poorly while competing for the attention of straight people. While that obviously does happen in real life, for me it doesn’t make an enjoyable or cute romcom. It seemed their only goal for most of the book was to be considered a straight woman’s “gay best friend” which felt like a plot a decade or two out of place.
They also spent so much time being rude to each other that by the time they did fall in love that it felt, to me, random and unearned.
Add to all of that, the main character had real “pick me” energy and was constantly complaining about other gay men (and gay music and gay culture, etc.) in a way they clearly thought was clever or fresh. I did not.
I just didn’t love it and, especially during Pride, I wish I could say that I did.

Difficult to rate.
Revisado: 05-03-24
I think it’s important when reading a book like this that multiple things can be true at once.
I can very much appreciate how beautifully written this book is while also accepting that this writing style is not for me.
I had an appreciation for the words and also found it hard to get into.
Less of a critique and more of a preference.

An ambitious book
Revisado: 04-17-24
This was a sexy and ambitious book that didn’t really click with me most of the time. There was a lot to love, and the sex scenes were sexy, but I often found the rest of the plot confusing. I wanted to love it but I never got there unfortunately.
