Historia
Unpacking her belongings in her new hometown of Portland, Oregon, herbalist and reformed alchemist Zoe Faust can't help but notice she's picked up a stowaway. Dorian Robert-Houdin is a living, breathing three-and-half-foot gargoyle - not to mention a master of French cuisine - and he needs Zoe's expertise to decipher a centuries-old text. Zoe, who's trying to put her old life behind her, isn't so sure she wants to reopen her alchemical past... until the dead man on her porch leaves her no choice.

Young Adult fantasy, ok for fluff listening
Revisado: 12-24-20
This was really not what I was expecting. This may be the author's 1st book, Or at least it sounded like it. It's not a really in depth listen, good for fluffy not really paying a ton of attention kind of listening. The main character is very shallow and really the only thing that rescues this book from being something I would have discontinued before finishing is the gargoyle. The narrator did a great job with mediocre material and I would definitely listen to something this narrator read, again.

I actually liked this one...a book split in half
Revisado: 12-14-15
What did you love best about Seveneves?
The first half of the book, closer to current times, and the pre and post apocalypse feel to the first half was great.
Any additional comments?
I liked the book, contrary to so many other reviews. I did find a 5000 year jump in time to be jarring and it took half a book to understand the title. I would listen to this again, but I'm disapointed at the rushed ending, or at least it felt rushed to me. The narration wasn't the best...and wasn't the worst.

Historia
In celebration of the week-long, once-in-a-decade rite of Apert, the fras and suurs prepare to venture outside the concent's gates - opening them wide at the same time to welcome the curious "extras" in. During his first Apert as a fra, Erasmus eagerly anticipates reconnecting with the landmarks and family he hasn't seen since he was "collected". But before the week is out, both the existence he abandoned and the one he embraced will stand poised on the perilous brink of cataclysmic change.

Wow, this one took some time to get into...
Revisado: 12-14-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If my friend was a real scifi fantasy nut with the ability to absorb extensive "world building", yes.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The variety of voices made this slightly less confusing.
Any additional comments?
The first 1/3 of this book was a struggle for me and I had to keep coming back to it. This involved total world building, and lots of technobabble, and I had a tough time getting into it. After that 1/3 was slogged through, though, I started to buy in to the characters and enjoyed the novel overall.

Historia
Fraa Erasmus is a young avout living in the Concent of Saunt Edhar, a sanctuary for mathematicians, scientists, and philosophers, protected from the corrupting influences of the "Saecular" world by ancient stone, honored traditions, and complex rituals. Over the centuries, cities, and governments have risen and fallen beyond the concent's walls. Three times during history's darkest epochs, bloody violence born of superstition and ignorance has invaded and devastated the cloistered mathic community.

Revisado: 12-14-15
If you could sum up If Chins Could Kill in three words, what would they be?
Guilty, Evil, Pleasure
Which scene was your favorite?
The behind the scenes views of the making of the Evil Dead, and some of the Lucy Lawless stories
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES
Any additional comments?
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Bruce Campbell's reading of his own book is wonderful, adds all of the emphasis where it should be, and kept me entertained throughout. For works that later became "cult classics", hearing the actual stories behind it was great. I wish there was a follow-up book.

Historia
Inspired by the true story of Danish painter Einar Wegener and his California-born wife, this tender portrait of a marriage asks: what do you do when someone you love wants to change? It starts with a question, a simple favor asked of a husband by his wife on an afternoon chilled by the Baltic wind while both are painting in their studio. Her portrait model has cancelled; would he slip into a pair of women's shoes and stockings for a few moments so she can finish the painting on time?

An interesting, semi-nonfiction.
Revisado: 12-14-15
Would you consider the audio edition of The Danish Girl to be better than the print version?
I think I would have had difficulty reading some of the names/locations properly, and the narrator made it simple.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Danish Girl?
The ending.
What does Jeff Woodman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
A clear, smooth reading of an interesting story with some challenging words and accents.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this. While it isn't entirely factual, it is an interesting view of the story before and behind the first male-to-female transgender surgery, and gives a well fleshed out setting of the time this took place.

No more "deep breath" and "head shake" David Weber
Revisado: 07-15-14
Where does Crown of Slaves rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It would be somewhere in the middle of my large library. I'd listen to it again, but it isn't a book I'll be craving.
What did you like best about this story?
I was pleased by Eric Flint's influence on David Weber's story. In more recent Weber books I get so tired of listening to every one of David Weber's characters taking deep breaths and shaking their heads to clear their minds of the long inner monologues he relies on to move the story...this was a refreshing change.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
My mind wandered in some sections, I had to rewind and listen again, so no..I was not glued to the story on this one.
Any additional comments?
A worthwhile listen if you are a fan of the Honorverse but would like David Weber's style cleaned up a bit. It was an enjoyable listen.

Historia
The Charisian Empire, born in war, has always known it must fight for its very survival. What most of its subjects don’t know even now, however, is how much more it’s fighting for. Emperor Cayleb, Empress Sharleyan, Merlin Athrawes, and their innermost circle of most trusted advisers do know. And because they do, they know the penalty if they lose will be far worse than their own deaths and the destruction of all they know and love.

This is a good bedtime story..I'm so sleepy...
Revisado: 05-22-14
Would you try another book from David Weber and/or Charles Keating?
I would read other David Weber books, but absolutely nothing by Charles Keating. His voice is so soothing it almost puts me to sleep.
How could the performance have been better?
The performance is just...BORING. The book itself isn't bad, but I want Oliver Wyman back! He made the early books interesting!
Any additional comments?
If you are desperately sold on the Safehold books, and MUST continue with the series, go ahead...but I personally am returning this book.

Historia
Only a handful of people in the world know that mankind's magic comes from a living creature, and it is a refugee from another universe. The Power showed up here in the 1850s because it was running from something. Now it is 1933, and the Power's hiding place has been discovered by a killer. It is a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. Earth is next. Former private eye Jake Sullivan knows the score. The problem is, hardly anyone believes him.

I love this series and Bronson Pinchot is great
Revisado: 09-08-13
Where does Warbound rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Top 20
Who was your favorite character and why?
Faye, absolutely. Her naivete and genuine innocence is charming, and her power level is amazing, yet she stays humble, thanks to her upbringing. She is thoroughly enjoyable.
Which character – as performed by Bronson Pinchot – was your favorite?
Jake Sullivan. He portrays the character as gently spoken but intelligent, just as the book describes him.
