Historia
Fiver could sense danger. Something terrible was going to happen to the warren; he felt sure of it. They had to leave immediately. So begins a long and perilous journey of survival for a small band of rabbits. As the rabbits skirt danger at every turn, we become acquainted with the band, its humorous characters, and its compelling culture, complete with its own folk history and mythos. Fiver’s vision finally leads them to Watership Down, an upland meadow. But here they face their most difficult challenges of all.

A Rabbit Epic
Revisado: 04-03-24
This was as good an epic story as could have been written about men, and yet it’s about rabbits.
Quite good.
I highly recommend for all people who like stories and especially mythical ones

Historia
This volume of short essays and other pieces by C. S. Lewis is part of a larger collection, C. S.Lewis: Essay Collection and Other Short Pieces. In addition to his many books, letters, and poems, C. S. Lewis wrote a great number of essays and shorter pieces on various subjects. He wrote extensively on Christian theology and the defense of faith but also on ethical issues and the nature of literature and storytelling. This audiobook is a treasure trove of Lewis' reflections on diverse topics.

Clarity of thought even in questions and speculation
Revisado: 11-23-20
Lewis is very good at understanding what the issues are, even if he doesn’t have an answer to them. Most people, many philosophers, and especially scientists, don’t even know what the question is.

Historia
For 12,000 years the Galactic Empire has ruled supreme. Now it is dying. But only Hari Seldon, creator of the revolutionary science of psychohistory, can see into the future - to a dark age of ignorance, barbarism, and warfare that will last thirty thousand years. To preserve knowledge and save humankind, Seldon gathers the best minds in the Empire - both scientists and scholars - and brings them to a bleak planet at the edge of the galaxy to serve as a beacon of hope for future generations. He calls his sanctuary the Foundation.

Asimov falls for his own propaganda
Revisado: 12-21-18
Apologies for the rant. I wanted so much to like this given all the hype.... I just found it too unbelievable.
The setting is interesting, and elements of the story are entertaining... but I just couldn’t get past the idea that a psychologist could predict the course of history thousands of years into the future.
Most psychologists are terrible historians and worse philosophers. Humans are not machines whose paths can be traced deterministically.
Only if you deny the freedom of the will could you suspend your disbelief enough to get past this point... and that only maybe. Even if humans were determined, the sheer quantity of variables at play would make it impossible to calculate anything of peoples behavior, much less the course of an empire full of people.
And despite trying to act cynical about his created religion of science, the writer clearly falls for it himself. At least God is a plausible reason for someone’s prophesying the future... but psychohistory? That’s just too much for me.

Historia
Exiled to four years in Siberia, but hailed by the end of his life as a saint, prophet, and genius, Fyodor Dostoevsky holds an exalted place among the best of the great Russian authors. One of Dostoevsky’s five major novels, Devils follows the travails of a small provincial town beset by a band of modish radicals - and in so doing presents a devastating depiction of life and politics in late 19th-century Imperial Russia.

Prophetic
Revisado: 02-06-15
Dostoevsky is a master of seeing into the human soul. The way he portrays those precursors to the Bolsheviks give me an eerie feeling. When he describes the ultimate goal of the Devils that descended upon the little town, it was almost as if he was describing the general moral decay we see in our own society.
