Historia
When Bernd Heinrich decided to write a memoir of his ultramarathon running experience, he realized that the preparation for the race was as important, if not more so, than the race itself. In Why We Run, Heinrich considers the flight endurance of birds, the antelope's running prowess and limitations, and the ultra-endurance of camels to understand how human physiology can or cannot replicate these adaptations. Heinrich offers an original and provocative work combining the rigors of science with the passion of running.

Autobiography plus science, excellent
Revisado: 08-09-24
I read it for the ape to human evolution aspects, secondly for the expert exercise physiology, all presented very well indeed. But the storyline that carries the reader along is the autobiography of a runner building up to 100 km races at age 41.

Extraordinary plot twists

And an extremely assertive heroine. Some of the male officials are dumbed down a bit too much.

Wonderful development for a pair of characters
Revisado: 06-17-23
Easily the most complex of Sherry Thomas’ stories, romance or not. Very well done, sets a new standard for character development in multiple characters.

One man—visionary billionaire restaurant chain magnate T. R. Schmidt, Ph.D.—has a Big Idea for reversing global warming, a master plan perhaps best described as “elemental.” But will it work? Ranging from the Texas heartland to the Dutch royal palace in the Hague, from the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas to the sunbaked Chihuahuan Desert, Termination Shock brings together a disparate group of characters from different cultures and continents who grapple with the real-life repercussions of global warming.

Geo engineering
Revisado: 12-28-22
An excellent overview of Solar Radiation Management as of about 2020. Credible plot and some wonderful characters. Should Neal want to do a follow on, I would suggest an Arctic Cooling pilot project with an attempt to change the focus from average overheating to the surges in five types of extreme weather between 2002 and 2010–all while average overheating had paused.
