Remember when we hit it off so well that we decided we’re going to need more wine? Well, this time you and I are going to turn to our friend the bartender and ask, you got anything stronger? I promise to continue to make you laugh, but with this round, the stakes get higher as the conversation goes deeper.

Loved the realness of this book!
Revisado: 12-10-21
I enjoyed the Audible version of this book. It felt like I was sitting in Gabrielle’s living room having tea and conversation about real-life topics that are relevant to my life experiences. Thank you Gabrielle for being so real😀

Historia
In her current reign at Power 105.1 and for nearly two decades at New York's Hot 97, Angie Martinez has had one of the highest rated radio shows in the country. After working her way up as an intern, she burst on the scene as a young female jock whose on-air "Battle of the Beats" segment broke records and became a platform for emerging artists like a young Jay Z. Angie quickly became known for intimate, high-profile interviews, mediating feuds between artists, and taking on the most controversial issues in hip-hop.

Love this Book!!!!

What did you love best about My Voice?
I haven’t written a review before but I felt like I must do so for this book. I love that Angie was her authentic self throughout the book. I listened to the book on my way to and from work. Each day when I would get in my car, turn on my bluetooth and connect to Audible to listen to Angie, I felt like she was driving with me and we were having a conversation. She kept it so real and true. I grew up during the same era , listening to Angie and FunkMasterFlex on Hot 97 every time I drove to NY to from Boston to visit my family and party at the Tunnel. Everything that she talked about in her book from the 80s - late 90s I deeply connected with. It was so good to hear her passion come through the channels about old school hip hop because I too LOVE old school hip hop. I also loved that she shared about her personal life too about being a mother, daughter, friend, partner, etc. - I so can relate to it all. I love this book and strongly recommend it to everyone to read but especially for those that love hip hop music and NY.
What other book might you compare My Voice to and why?
None
Have you listened to any of Angie Martinez’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to Angie on radio and this book by far gives you a deeper flavor of who the real Angie Martinez is.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, it made me laugh and cry because I can relate to it on so many levels.
