And that's the point of a good book, correct? Main dismissals, over and over again, on YouTube and other places is that, "Well, she's not a doctor", (referring to Nina Tiecholz, the researcher and author). What an incredibly lame dismissal.

Truly enjoyed this book.

Observation about life and universality of the topic is great. Good writing and storytelling. Obviously, it engages the reader/listener (why I am writing a review).

The persistent return to transgenderism as some 'universal' transition of the human condition or the human condition is very offsetting.

I could understand using that as an example once ,twice, or a few times, but once introduced, Bruce returns to that example and experience repeatedly as if we are supposed to somehow relate to that.

I just feel there are SO many other universal experiences of our human experience that we go through on much larger majorities. The human story is wrought with everything from plagues, to wars, famines, hurricanes, tornadoes, cancers,, etc. He does a good job of using real world examples that reminded me of my own lost child and lost loved ones, and other things we all go through. I can mildly imagine and extrapolate to my own experience some inner battle one must have from going through a 'transgender' process but to return repeatedly to that as some example that we are all supposed to relate to or use as some framework is very off putting. It is NOT something the vast majority of people can relate to, not when there are SO many other things that we ALL DO relate to and experience - job loss, betrayal, death, sickness, etc. It seemed very heavy handed and seeking cultural relevancy rather than human experience based.

Proceed with the name calling and telling me how homophobic or terrible I am for my two cents.

Good Quality, Just Not What I was Looking For

Very well researched and academic. No fault there.

I thought and was looking for something more alternative.

This seems simply more in-depth mainstream narrative, tons of history with what I consider conjecture.

I am always skeptical when experts tell me exactly what people ate and how they cooked 11,000 years ago.

I thought it would be more insightful to other historical findings and theories that have been swept away, this seems like in -depth main stream narrative.

great story. some history mixed with good recount of experience, politics, etc. strange twist toward the end about medical dangers we are all going to face due to global warning. second part of the book was about the disease they all caught and how that disease is now going to infect us all due to global warming and some sort of "privileged guilt" because the "bottom billion " people live with this disease already. i enjoyed the first part of the book much more.

The examples in the book, the excerpts of dialog, are very helpful to see how the "inquiry" and the "work" is accomplished. Very insightful, real world examples of people who experienced great pain and loss and are learning how to do "the work".

My wife slipped this into my Audible account which is not a good start. Being open to learning and understanding that I am the least knowledgeable person I know about how women think or feel I gladly listened to the book. Written by a woman, who interviewed a thousand women to get the content for this book, I feel the content is probably an accurate capture of what some women think or feel. It's mixed with fairly typical and predictable Bible Verses about how men are supposed to do "X" or supposed to do "Y" because the bible says so. It doesn't go much deeper into helping a man understand. It stays at the surface level that most mainline churches or pastors will give you a number of times each year, about pursuing the heart of your princess. But if your somewhat thick headed like me, just getting more lace laden guilt written in women's language does almost nothing to actually change the thinking. We know we don't do it right. You tell us this every day. Telling us how to do it or what you need in women's language without helping us have the "ah, hah!" moment doesn't do much to help us help you. Even the title is this subtle method. Becoming the Godly Husband Your Wife Desires... written by a woman, on behalf of women. So women are the authority of what constitutes a Godly Husband. Just ask them. Inside, one of the topics is that women desire the man to be the spiritual head of the household. But women will tell you how to do it and what that means. Admittedly, myself and most men hungry for God do not have all the answers, but women and pastors continually telling us we don't know what we are doing is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Not to mention there isn't a single book on Audible about Capturing His Heart. Oh yeah, that's because everyone assumes that men are ONLY driven by testosterone and sex which is such a lie. We actually have hearts and want to be engaged as whole human beings, but how many women and churches and pastors clump us into a box of testosterone?
Overall not bad and I would recommend it. She means well, but you will get a predictable side, much like Gary Smalley who focuses and makes his money by appealing to the women.
