Historia
The kids and their monster buddies are hanging out in the tree house, when Jack launches into an epic, totally-heroic, super-rad story of one of his many post-apocalyptic adventures. Of course, after he's finished, everyone's eager to one-up his tale with a story of their own. Soon, Quint, Dirk, June, and Skaelka, and even Globlet regale the group with sometimes outrageous, often hilarious details of their action-packed escapades during the monster-zombie apocalypse.

Lifesaver for car-sick kid
Revisado: 06-13-22
My 8 year old was feeling sick on our long road trip looking at his tablet. We had read the first Last Kids on Earth together and I suggested this to him. He was unsure at first but now I think he’s an audiobook lover for life! Great job with production because this book saved us from some uncomfortable driving hours.

I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

Short, cute “clean” road-trip romance
Revisado: 05-17-22
Enjoyable listen, I liked the immersive acted feel of the production but could have used more chemistry and tension. Loved the road trip aspect of the story though. But… was there even a kiss? Very “clean” read or listen you could easily listen with kids in the car.

Solid transition and character building transition book
Revisado: 12-09-21
I am writing this review after having completed the entire series. I couldn’t stop reading to review each in between!
This was probably my least favorite book though it’s still very foundational. At this point Olina has escaped after having finally seen her face in the reflection of the mirror and run away to join.... a fight club??? Yep you heard right! And for the first quarter of the book that was all that was going on. Just fighting etc etc some outer ring drama and politics which felt like it had a lot of action but I kept waiting for the plot to move forward. The road blocks to finding Kendrick’s killer were frustrating and you could feel the comfort in monotony (in spite of getting beat up occasionally) that Olina must have felt but eventually things come to a head and MAN that dome battle was epic and satisfying and eventually gets Olina back in the castle under the guise of her new persona. There the relationship between Olina and Joven really gets going. You can see how the closer Olina comes to finding herself and BEING herself the closer she is to finding happiness with Joven. But she’s not herself and there are castle politics that cause problems.
Olina runs and that is additional frustration in and of itself. The final to books are beyond worth making your way through this one!

Historia
The veil I've worn from birth carries with it a terrible loneliness, a suppression I cannot imagine ever being free of. My mother will always hate me. Her court will always shun me. When the peace delegation arrives from the savage world of Glacium, my life is shoved wildly out of control by the handsome Prince Kedrick, who, for unfathomable reasons, shows me kindness. Sometimes it takes the world bringing you to your knees to find that spark you thought forever lost. Sometimes it takes death to show you how to live.

Interesting world building YA opening book!
Revisado: 12-09-21
I’m coming back and reviewing after reading the entire series. I couldn’t stop to review in between! Great beginning to the series, great action. I’m enjoying Olina’s journey and the intrigue we’re learning about. This book focuses on Olina’s loss of her first love. A very sweet innocent early love. And introducing what will be her lifetime love (don’t get to excited yet, it’s only an intro and there’s really no romance yet). But this is the origin story and builds the foundation for some epic stuff to come.
I thought the world building was great, simple, original. There isnt magic but a complete alternative world and the mysteries within that made up world are fantastical and meet that fantasy criteria. I think the world building and complexity (or lack thereof) worked well for a sort of YA/NA romance/fantasy (this book can easily be YA but potential NA in later books).
Beware of some very serious physical and psychological abuse of the main character.

Over a year ago, I was ripped away from my human village to serve the Ghertun, a brutal enemy alien race. With the lives of my family at risk, I am tasked to deliver a message to the one place no human has ever gone before: the capital city of Dakkar. Before I succeed, however, I am captured by a horde king. A horde king of the Dakkari, a merciless barbaric race bred for war and violence that rule over the hostile and unforgiving planet of Dakkar.

The world expands and the series plot thickens!
Revisado: 12-06-21
I enjoyed this installment of the horde king series better than the second and possibly as much or more than the first. The “mad” horde king was actually tormented by visions of dead people but most especially was haunted by his dead twin sister who was brutally murdered and betrayed. In his grief and rage, he is then taken advantage of and tormented by a woman who trains and manipulates his rage. It is this not surprising that he feels protective of the little human who steals into the capital city and begs for his mercy. He allows her to escape but she doesn’t want to escape. She has a mission to free her family from the lizard people. She eventually speaks with the king about the lizard king’s conditions of truce(?) which the king ignores but the warriors see it as an opportunity to infiltrate their lizard enemies. The mad king takes Vienne into his custody to “help” and they fall in love. That’s basically the story. But the story telling is really lovely and the way they care for each other is so sweet and gentle. They have their secrets that eventually get out but I didn’t get the sense of betrayal of each other that I felt in the second book. I really felt these two fought for each other and rescued each other. That was the beauty of this book. Well done! I hope there will be more!

She broke their laws. Now, he has come to punish her...In my human settlement on the hostile plains of Dakkar, I am an outcast, a strange girl orphaned since birth, alone, and dreaming of a life I don't have. I hunt to survive, though it is forbidden, though it breaks the strict Dakkari laws that we all must follow. When my desperate actions catch the attention of a Dakkari horde king - a cold, powerful, and merciless warrior leader, with eyes like flint and a body like steel - he seeks to punish me...and he succeeds. But then he does the unexpected.

Love this book!
Revisado: 12-04-21
I could listen to these books all day long. They are so nicely written everything flows and is paced so well that I get lost in the story and what will happen next and the EMOTIONS being evoked. This story was even more of a forbidden love romance than the first book. It has the feel of a Pride and Prejudice retelling. The hero screws up multiple times in his “courtship” mostly based on what other people would think of him not his own feelings. But the connection between the hero and heroine is fairly instant and he’s so patient with the heroine and actually gets to know her and gives her time… though admittedly not her own tent 😬. It also starts with the hero ordering the heroine’s whipping because DUTY. So beware of that triggerwise. And the rest of the book is a struggle between duty and love. Eventually they make it work but it’s all the twists, the angst, the forgiveness and the begging for forgiveness that makes this book so so good! Man, I was so sucked in. Loving this author so much so far!

Loved the whole series!
Revisado: 12-03-21
This was a great conclusion to the series, it had all the action of the first book, all the political machinations of the second book and we get to see the Keep and some battles, the mystery of the beasts is explained and Shea saves the day! I thought the drama with Shea’s parent was a little odd and unnecessary, they seemed so cold and then when you find out about… well everything it kind of pisses me off how they treated her. But Shea is great, she really goes though some changes in this book, grows up in a way and becomes a leader instead of just going her own way. Fallon is really basically the same except he does a bit better with giving Shea her wings and trusting her not to get dead. Their romance is pretty resolved or at least there is so much else going on that any little squabbling is kinda irrelevant. But it’s all pretty entertaining.

Good transition book
Revisado: 12-02-21
This book starts off not immediately after the last ends. It’s clear that some things have happened: Shea is now Telroi not Tolroi and I feel like that transition was never fully explained, I even went to look and see if I missed a book before this one. Nope. Just suddenly Telroi without the transition and it’s not really clear how important the distinction is as “both positions hold honor”. Additionally it is clear that all is not well in paradise. Fallon and Shea have argued, Fallon took off on a months long journey and now Shea needs to learn the ropes. Instead of running all the time, she now needs to learn to stay out and adapt to this new society. It’s a transitional book with less action than the first but still plenty of world building and relationship development. I loved the tree top civilization and the expedition into the Mist, that and the introduction to Shea’s old Pathfinder life keeps this book as interesting as the first. It’s a bit of “what happens after the HEA” which is good because that builds the strength of the relationship. Loyalties are tested, as are skills. I enjoyed this book about as much as the first in spite of its sometimes slower pace. Excited to jump right into the next!

The Trateri are about to learn a vital lesson of the Broken Lands. Deep in the remote expanse where anything can happen, it pays to be on a pathfinder's good side. Nobody ventures beyond their village. Nobody sane, that is. Monstrous creatures and deadly mysteries wait out here. Luckily for the people she serves, Shea's not exactly sane. As a pathfinder, it's her job to face what others fear and find the safest route through the wilderness. It's not an easy job, but she's the best at what she does.

Great start to an epic fantasy romance
Revisado: 11-29-21
Wow this is such a great start to this epic fantasy romance. Shea is a sarcastic snarky pathfinder (basically a guide in a treacherous post-apoc world) who is very under appreciated but very skilled. She leads several missions for her violin before a warrior tribe from the south comes and begins conquering territory. She is captured but while she quickly escapes, her boy disguise gets her pulled farther into this warrior world and she becomes assimilated and appreciated for her talents. However this whole time the warlord is looking for her. When he finally realizes who she is he wastes little time in claiming her, she resists a more committed relationship but they kinda work it out. I love the character Shea, I relate to her loner tendencies, how nature and solitude feed her sole even when she feels a little lonely, and how she doesn’t want to explain herself when she knows she’s right. She’s an introvert, sometimes we struggle to explain ourselves verbally. She is cool under pressure, strong, and I love Fallon’s clear admiration for her from the beginning though this is an extreme slow burn. It is more adventure than romance especially for the first 1/2-3/4 of the book. But it’s fun and exciting and leaves you thinking there is plenty more to learn about this world and these different peoples. Great book 1!!!

I haven’t stayed up reading a book in a long time! I loved this older woman and younger man trope. Even so I loved Ela’s innocence in spite of her age and how she had tried so hard to fit in. Seems so unfair her friend could have all these incident free flings and then Ela tries one and she gets caught. Welp that was the story I guess! Ela had a bad first marriage and 10 years a widow she’s ready to try an affair, meets family friend Colin at a seedy brothel like place and things escalated from there but really it felt like the pages FLEW by! I couldn’t put it down! Well done!
