Russell is one of the few people who can effectively explain and demonstrate that the 12-step recovery process is not only an excellent treatment for addiction, but truly the most significant spiritual movement of the 20th century. He guides the reader/listener through his own personal transformations and describes how wounded families, corrupt societies and unbalanced systems can similarly transform by implementing 12-step philosophy and various spiritual practices. He truly believes Humanity as a whole is capable of having as profound a shift as he has, personally. I love how the message is basically “ if there is something strong enough to have relieved me of my addiction and self-centeredness, there’s nothing that power can’t do.”
I am sober 27 years and truly believe that depending on our perspective, we are either in the pollution or in the solution... I forget that sometimes, but Revelation was a great reminder.
It’s message is gentle and wise, but also Oozes with the humor and cleverness that makes Russell the darling of all former bad boys. The book felt like a hug from my higher power and set me back on course to help create a better humanity. Russell is fully tapped into the divine mystery we call God. Lucky for us he has the generosity and talent to share so beautifully what he receives.

Funny and complex.

I enjoyed the audio book very much. It is well written and Chris takes the listener on an interesting and entertaining trip trough his childhood career and love life. I kept pausing and looking up his Work on YouTube and that was awesome to be able to flesh out the story with SNL clips.
The only thing that bothered me a little bit was the lack of ownership he takes him his part in the relationships that ended....friendships and romantic relationships. There is just a lack of rigorously honest self appraisal. He implies that he has no idea why some friends dropped him and in his romantic relationships, they always just “grew apart”. I was hoping there would be a deeper level of honesty.
But overall it was awesome and I loved it!

Russell sums up addiction and recovery in an honest and educated way. He tells his story from a place of profound authenticity, and demonstrates through personal experience that his sobriety and serenity is contingent on practicing and expanding a spiritual program of action. His writing is poignant and poetic... parts feel like very accessible spoken word at times. I listened to the audio book on a drive from the desert to the coast. It was entertaining and hypnotic. Even though I've been happily and gratefully sober and very active in 12 step recovery since my early 20's, I learned a great deal from Russell's perspective. Thank you Russell, for being a beautiful example of what I believe is a Divinely inspired program and way of life!
This book should be shared with anyone affected or interested in addiction.
A beautiful and brave book!!

I listened while working, parenting, hiking, cleaning and doing service work. Now I want to get more involved in the political process too!

A new perspective.

This very well written and read audio book helped me gain a nail, positive perspective about sexuality and it's significance in the biblical and modern relationship.
It also includes insights into relationships in general which very helpful and inspiring.
Bell introduces and supports the concept that a mutually empowering, sexually fulfilling relationship is "heaven on earth". This beautiful idea is exactly what I needed to hear at this point in my life.
The book is very female friendly and dispels many of the oppressive myths used as tools by Christian males. This book could easily be called "Sex Goddess!"
