Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

So Many Moments That Envoked A Sense Of Wonder!
Revisado: 04-17-23
First, the story is a solid, well-plotted hard science fiction novel. It starts with a mystery and you are there alongside the protagonist trying to understand what is happening. Little by little, the back story is revealed in flashbacks as the protagonist tries to make sense of his current situation. I grew up on and enjoy hard scince fiction. I love world building that nakes sense by building upon what is revealled as the story progresses. This novel is flawless in that regard and left me feeling my favorite reaction to a well crafter science fiction novel. A sense of wonder as I grasp the scale of the problem or solution. There are some big ideas in this novel and while I do not not want to reveal any spoilers, I will say Mr. Weir plays with some new approaches to classic science fiction themes.
What I loved is just how well this novel was enhanced by the Audible format. One of the best performances I have heard with multiple characters voiced distinctly and other audio enhancements which added to making this particular story come alive.
I think the highest honor I can give is that this novel is the one I would recommend to anyone considering getting an Audible book for the first time. It has my highest recommendation.

A Classic of Science Fiction!
Revisado: 06-28-17
while the style of this book can be jarring to modern readets, the ideas are amazing. Like Lord of the Rings, the Lensmen series along with the Foundation series helped define science fiction ideas still explored today. I enjoyed the performance as many words no loner in common usage were thrown into the dialog frequently. The love story is clumsy and idealistic. The hero us always heroic. The universe is always "shiny" with no grit. It is like the movie 2001 and not Blade Runner. But within it's limits, it is a classic. The space battles are amazing and instead of being set in our solar system, this book shows travel between galaxies. Recommended!

Historia
One of Heinlein's best-loved works, The Rolling Stones follows the rollicking adventures of the Stone family as they tour the solar system. It doesn't seem likely for twins to have the same middle name. Even so, it's clear that Castor and Pollux Stone both have "Trouble" written in that spot on their birth certificates. Of course, anyone who's met their grandmother Hazel would know they came by it honestly.

This story was made for an audio book!
Revisado: 05-25-17
This story really allows your imagination to go to work. I am a long time fan of Heinlein. Yes, the story is dated. Yes, there is a patriarchal tone to the story. But the character that holds it all together is Grandma Hazel who I would pit against any female hero today. Just a great character and a joy to watch her interact with the other characters. Remember, this was written before we even put a man in space. The other thing I like is there is really no violence. The dangers they encounter are from space and not bad people. The narration was good and it was the easiest listen of any audio book to date for me. I really enjoyed revisiting an old favorite via Audible.

A Reasonably Good Story
Revisado: 05-21-17
This was a good story but much less exciting than the Lost Fleet series. Recommended if you like day to day life of a junior officer type stories. But set in space in the future. The narration wasn't bad but not as good as some I have heard. Overall, between the narration and the story, I did find the pace a bit slow at times.

Historia
Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.
Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

Excellent start to a great series!
Revisado: 04-28-17
The action starts immediately as an untested Jack Geary finds himself in command, facing overwhelming odds, and a long way from home.
The narration was excellent and the story brisk and fast paced. what I like most is how the book properly shows getting the fleet to believe they can get home is just as important as getting ready for the next battle.

Outstanding! Best Book In This Series!
Revisado: 04-19-17
Would you listen to For Honor We Stand again? Why?
Yes. I love the story and performance of Ray Chase's narration. You really get immersed in the life on board the Cumberland. The little details of shipboard life and how leadership can make such a difference rings true even though this is fiction.
What was one of the most memorable moments of For Honor We Stand?
The ending where a choice is made. Are humans to be hunters? Or prey?
What does Ray Chase bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Ray did a great job of bringing the story to life. I am a fast reader. I can read many books in the time it takes me to listen to one. So a good performance is important to me. He varied the pace and pitch to easily differentiate different characters without trying to create a unique voice for every character. he does create a unique voice for several major characters.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The scene where they are scanning expecting to be ambushed. They know they are walking into a trap but have no choice but move forward and wait for it to happen.
Any additional comments?
I love the first two books of this series.

Detailed Universe With Familiar Characters
Revisado: 04-15-17
If you could sum up To Honor You Call Us in three words, what would they be?
Well thought out.
What did you like best about this story?
I like the details explaining so much behind the universe the story is set in. Why are there no women on board? Why are there midshipmen? This is basically taking the Aubrey - Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian set in space. If you have seen the movie "Master and Commander The Far Side of the World" you will see this honors that series. I love the details of how a new captain has to take a discouraged crew and turn them into an effective fighting team.
Which character – as performed by Ray Chase – was your favorite?
The admiral "Hit em harder". The writing is well done but Ray did a good job on that character.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I cannot listen in one sitting any book this long.
Any additional comments?
I bought and am enjoying the sequel.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Slow build up but worth the journey!
Revisado: 09-13-13
Would you consider the audio edition of 14 to be better than the print version?
I did not read the print version. So the story was completely new to me.
What other book might you compare 14 to and why?
It is a mash-up of several genres.I have no direct comparison.
Which character – as performed by Ray Porter – was your favorite?
Tim was my favorite character.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not that strong a reaction. However, the reveal of what was behind the door of apartment 14 was very well done.
Any additional comments?
Despite the slow start, you get to appreciate you discover things about the building as the characters do. Very spot on writing to make you feel a apart of the group exploring exactly what was "wrong" with their building. Highly recommended.
