Historia
Stanley Tucci grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the kitchen table. He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the savory recipes and into the compelling stories behind them. Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about his growing up in Westchester, New York.

Just fantastic

And since the author is also the narrator, the pronunciation of all the words, foreign and English, is always correct. Of course, had to buy The Tucci Table immediately!

Historia
When sensible, sophisticated Flora Poste is orphaned at 19, she decides her only choice is to descend upon relatives in deepest Sussex. At the aptly named Cold Comfort Farm, she meets the doomed Starkadders: cousin Judith, heaving with remorse for unspoken wickedness; Amos, preaching fire and damnation; their sons, lustful Seth and despairing Reuben; child of nature Elfine; and crazed old Aunt Ada Doom, who has kept to her bedroom for the last 20 years. But Flora loves nothing better than to organise other people.

Not all that funny
Revisado: 09-03-21
Almost lighthearted, but too formulaic to be fun. Each character is a tight package of predictable characteristics according to his archetype: the bohemian, the self-righteous preacher, the rake, the domineering matriarch, the slut, etc., but none has thoughts, a soul, or reaches out of his prescribed persona. Accordingly we see though Flora's eyes, but never into her heart or mind. For a period comedy that is beautifully written with believable pathos and quirky characters rendered with an uncritical eye, I prefer, I Capture The Castle, by Dodie Smith.

Don't miss this one!
Revisado: 07-01-21
So many fun characters. The storyline is not The Usual. Steamy but not raunchy. Characters from other books in the series are referred to, making the world of this story interconnected. And, of course, Susan Duerdon's narration is the icing on the cake. She pulls the whose confection together with her clear, ladylike diction. I'm listening for the second, but not the last, time.

But underneath is a damaged soul soothed only by public adulation.Louisa Cantwell needs to marry well to support her sisters. She does not, however, want Lord Wrenworth-though he seems inexplicably interested in her. She mistrusts his outward perfection, and the praise he garners everywhere he goes.

Not your typical Romance
Revisado: 06-24-21
Sherry Thomas is an amazing writer. Her prose is solid and complex. Her characters are unusual but believable. I hope she will write for many years to come. The voice of the narrator did not draw attention to itself making the story paramount. Altogether a pleasure to hear.If you don’t enjoy a racy read, however, you should pass this book by.

Narrator?
Revisado: 03-12-21
Good story and I really liked the characters. The narrator’s male voice, however, sounded robotic. This totally ruined the book for me. The robot voice made it impossible to understand the hero’s change from brute to prince.

Historia
Charming, vibrant, witty and edifying, The Life of Samuel Johnson is a work of great obsession and boundless reverence. The literary critic Samuel Johnson was 54 when he first encountered Boswell; the friendship that developed spawned one of the greatest biographies in the history of world literature. The book is full of humorous anecdote and rich characterization, and paints a vivid picture of 18th-century London, peopled by prominent personalities of the time.

Nothing compares to Boswell's work
Revisado: 02-08-20
How I wish I had Dr Johnson's vocabulary so I could string together enough superlatives to describe this lovely tribute. And I wish I could let Mr B know how much he has done for posterity by recording events and great men of the early Georgian era. So much wisdom and common sense here. And such platonic love. Im a better person for having listened to it.
The reader deserves an Oscar, too. The people all come to life and are all distinct. Plan to read the Hebrides book soon.

Funny as Heck
Revisado: 01-27-20
When I need a laugh, I reread The Queen and I. It never fails to crack me up with each family member adapting to life in the projects according to his natural bent and each Hell Close inhabitant acting wise while being bracingly tacky. Two of my favorite angles were Harris the corgi’s adventures in the hood and how dear, regal Queen Elizabeth kept her dignity and bravely shouldered the responsibilities of her new life. A beloved book and a favorite. Sue Townsend, I wish I could give you a hug for bringing good-hearted hilarity into my world.

Historia
Elizabeth Black is the headmistress of a girls' school in 1830s Victorian London. She is also a well-respected author of stories written both for and about the upper-class ladies of Victorian society. But by night, she writes very different kinds of stories - the Penny Dreadfuls that are all the rage among the working-class men. Under the pseudonym Charles King, Elizabeth has written about dashing heroes fighting supernatural threats, intelligent detectives solving grisly murders, and dangerous outlaws romancing helpless women.

Revisado: 12-18-19
Cute story. Upbeat. A little juvenile and incomplete. Narrator was good with one woman's voice, more than one woman was indistinguishable. Very unconvincing as a man. In fact, terrible as an American man A more accomplished narrator would have improved the book. Hope the writer keeps at it.
