Historia
After nearly five decades, one might think they were wellacquainted with Lady Isabella Trent - dragon naturalist, scandalous explorer, and perhaps as infamous for her company and feats of daring as she is famous for her discoveries and additions to the scientific field. And yet - after her initial adventure in the mountains of Vystrana and her exploits in the depths of war-torn Eriga, to the high seas aboard the Basilisk and then to the inhospitable deserts of Akhia - Lady Trent has captivated hearts along with fierce minds.

Seriously impressive!
Revisado: 08-22-24
I’m seriously impressed with Brennan’s ability to craft side characters that have personalities, ambitions, and lives. It really feels like these are real people existing in a world rather than characters crafted in service of a narrative.
I know this is meant to be a grand finale to a fantastic series, but this story felt a little too traditionally structured to read like a memoir at times. Elements that were introduced and randomly dropped (like real life) are gone in this installment, every question the reader cares about is left completely answered (rather than allowing Lady Trent’s thesis of “there’s more to discover” to be felt), and the three characters we meet in the sanctuary are the three we stick with into the climax, which I found a bit contrived. Overall, though, what a fantastic way to end the series!

Historia
Spensa’s life as a Defiant Defense Force pilot has been far from ordinary. She proved herself one of the best starfighters in the human enclave of Detritus, and she saved her people from extermination at the hands of the Krell - the enigmatic alien species that has been holding them captive for decades. What’s more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small planet home. Now, the Superiority - the governing galactic alliance bent on dominating all human life - has started a galaxy-wide war.

Pulp adventure… with a twist…
Revisado: 10-10-22
Every installment of this series seems to be a genre discussion: the first being a war film, the second a spy-action comedy. This time around, it is a pulp adventure novel. Sanderson took a while to sell me on the genre for this one, as it felt like the main character was having fun while her friends were elsewhere struggling to survive. A twist reveal about one of the new characters won me over, however
On another note, is it just me or is the skyward series seem to be a loop of the following: Spensa goes on an adventure of self-discovery - Spensa makes friends and forges a team - Spensa goes off on her own for a new adventure. So far we have had three flights that we (Or at least I) want to see fly along Spensa again. If the fourth book ends up being another loop, then I’d wonder if Sanderson is aware of this particular Checkhov’s gun. Seeing these new pirates, flight 15, and Skyward Flight fly together would be immensely satisfying…. Just saying…
