The history of the Constitution is therefore a history of ideas that define our country and our national identity—and it’s a fascinating and revealing story. The US Constitution Through History gives you the opportunity to explore the story of this powerful document, as well as the way our interpretation of it has evolved. Great Overview
Revisado: 09-16-24
Could have gone without the last 2 lectures, and some more on the Commerce Clause, Oerall, good stuff though. A introductory level on the Constitution for novices and a good review for those who've say through Con Law as a 1L.

The bomb that ushered in the atomic age was the product of one of history's most improbable partnerships. Well worth the time
Revisado: 11-16-23
A bit different angle to the Oppenheimer story. The extra focus on Groves was illuminating to the overall story. In total this is a pretty good book on the Manhattan project and the two guys at the center of it. It does go into the post war stuff as well. It's an excellent dip into both the Manhattan project, some of the early Cold War, and McCarthism generally as it related to Oppenheimer.

Historia
Howard Hughes was one of the most amazing, intriguing, and controversial figures of the 20th century. He was the billionaire head of a giant corporation, a genius inventor, an ace pilot, a matinee-idol-handsome playboy, a major movie-maker who bedded a long list of Hollywood glamour queens, a sexual sultan with a harem of teenage consorts, a political influencer with intimate ties to Watergate, a Las Vegas kingpin, and, ultimately, a bizarre recluse.

Too many girlfriends
Revisado: 11-16-23
Did Howard have a lot of girlfriends? Absolutely. But they dominate the story. You could easily miss Spruce Goose and everything around it because the author is too focused on the girlfriends.
If you are interested in the tabloid side of Howard's life, it's good. It is well written and well performed. But I quit with about 6 hours to go. I am not sure I'll ever return.

Historia
Senator Frank Church of Idaho was an unlikely hero. He led congressional opposition to the Vietnam War and had become a scathing, radical critic of what he saw as American imperialism around the world. But he was still politically ambitious, privately yearning for acceptance from the foreign policy establishment that he hated and eager to run for president. Despite his flaws, Church would show historic strength in his greatest moment, when in the wake of Watergate he was suddenly tasked with investigating abuses of power in the intelligence community.

A decent overview of the Church Committee, but too much chaf.
Revisado: 11-16-23
Does Church's son's couple of affairs have anything to do with this? No. but it's there. Does Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, have anything to do with this? No, but it's there. Does Judith Campbell's out of wedlock baby have anything to do with this? Absolutely not. It's crammed in there for no reason. How are two police officers that committed suicide after January 6 related to this? Beats me, but it's there. Just skip the epilogue. It's polemical and after a book about the deep state the author makes fun of contemporary allegations of the deep state.
There is good material and information in there. It could be a lot shorter if he would have skipped all of the above and more.
In the end, it's not terrible, but it's much longer than it needed to be.

Historia
When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

Another good one from Isaacson
Revisado: 10-15-23
I have read several of his biographies. I'm generally not a biography guy, but Isaacson's are good. This one is both timely, it includes the early days of Elon's Twitter take over and although it does dip into some of Elon's drama, it doesn't wade in it. It gives a much better perspective of Elon than you get from commentators, his fans, and his haters.
I wasn't a big fan of Isaacson's book on Jobs, which he makes some references to here. The Jobs book was too much fanboi. This, thankfully, isn't that. His DaVinci book is his best though.

Historia
In 2011, a 26-year-old libertarian programmer named Ross Ulbricht launched the ultimate free market: the Silk Road, a clandestine website hosted on the Dark Web where anyone could trade anything - drugs, hacking software, forged passports, counterfeit cash, poisons - free of the government's watchful eye. It wasn't long before the media got wind of the new website where anyone - not just teenagers and weed dealers but terrorists and black hat hackers - could buy and sell contraband detection-free.

worth the investment
Revisado: 10-15-23
The performance was good. The story was even better. The description of the hunt for him was incredible. It's always the little things that eventually get you. His hubris at the end with a couple detectives is worth the whole book.
The book does kinda give a bit more justification to his long sentence, but then again it seems that he may have just drawn the wrong judge for his crimes.

Revisado: 12-28-22
I had previously read through book 2. I picked this up for the 5,000 years later part. The first two thirds are excellent. the 5,000 years later part seems rushed. Hard to say with a story this long, but it just doesn't stack up to the first two thirds of the book. Worth the time? yes.

Historia
Americans wage many of today’s fiercest policy debates and culture wars over constitutional meaning. It’s because constitutional law is so fundamental to our democracy that law schools across the country teach the subject. It's the area of law that determines what federal and state governments are permitted to do, and what rights you have as an individual citizen of the US. Here, you'll get the same accessible, well-rounded introduction to constitutional law as a typical law student - but with the added benefit of noted constitutional scholar Eric Berger's brilliant insights.

Stop before the epilogue
Revisado: 09-29-22
It's a good book. It's rather short and should not be your only dive into the topic of reconstruction or 13A - 15A, but it's a great survey of the topic until the epilogue. The epilogue is a dive into current and potential future SCOTUS jurisprudence from a purely political perspective. Appropriate for a column in the NYtimes or whatnot, but not here.

Historia
They say that history is written by the victors. But not in the case of the most famous dissenter on the Supreme Court. Almost a century after his death, John Marshall Harlan’s words helped end segregation and gave us our civil rights and our modern economic freedom. But his legacy would not have been possible without the courage of Robert Harlan, a slave who John’s father raised like a son in the same household.

phenomenal book.
Revisado: 09-22-22
The book is phenomenal. I did not care for the importance that Robert Harlan's share of the story until about a 1/3 of the way through. It really does help make the book and story all the better.
I was perturbed by the bleeping of words. Let the book be read. It is not up to the producer to decide what words the listener can hear. Other than that, the narration was excellent.
