Edith Stein
Revisado: 05-02-24
This is the second of Danielle’s WW2 books I have listened to. While I liked ECHOS more, I want to focus on the historical quality of ONLY THE BRAVE. The facts about the rise of the Nazis was quite compelling. While hard to hear, I could not stop. In both books, DS told the brave story of Edith Stein, a Jew turned Catholic nun who spoke bravely about the rise and dangers of Hitler. Edith was a real person, a brave person. Thank you for telling this story with such attention to accuracy.
Also , I found the narration to be slow and cold. It could have been a lot better.

Not among my fave DS books.
Revisado: 03-08-24
I liked some of the characters, but the story was just too complicated. Having Ron McClarty narration kept me listening, but I didn’t make it to the end.

This book was full of surprises. After a few chapters I just relaxed and let the story lead me along. There were a few Pollyanna moments, but that was okay.
Narration was fabulous. Thanks DS.

I loved Frankie from the very beginning. Then, Ethel and Barb, who taught her to be a combat nurse. I was afraid to start this book, and then I could not stop listening. Thank you so much Kristen. After I listen to this book a few more times, I’ll be waiting for the next one.

Historia
In this compelling novel, Danielle Steel illuminates the dark side of one drunken night, with its tragic consequences, from every possible point of view. As the drama unfolds, the characters will reach a crossroads where they must choose between truth and lies, between what is easy and what is right, and find the moral compass they will need for the rest of their lives.

Great lessons for young women. For me, it was way too generic. DS is much better than this.

This story is so well constructed and the details were presented in a bold and clear way. The narrator was so perfect for the story. It’s a message of hope and love. Thanks to Danielle for putting so much love and care into this book. Everything is possible, even in the face of so much horror. 🙏♥️

Historia
Perched on a hill overlooking San Francisco, the house was magnificent, built in 1923 by a wealthy man for the woman he adored. For her and for this house, he would spare no expense and overlook no detail, from the endless marble floors to the glittering chandeliers. Almost a century later, with the once-grand house now in disrepair, a young woman walks through its empty rooms. Sarah Anderson, a perfectly sensible estate lawyer, is about to do something utterly out of character.

One of the Best DS books!
Revisado: 01-20-24
I loved this book from the first paragraph. For me, many DS books start slowly, or the beginning doesn’t have much to do with the story. With THE HOUSE, I loved Sarah and Stanley from the very beginning. The book was very well constructed. It was one of those DS books that made me wish DS wrote in series. Thanks , DS.

Ardith became a single mother when Morgan was seven, after her unfaithful husband died in a helicopter accident.

I did not like this one…
Revisado: 01-09-24
Often, the things I like the least in a Danielle Steel book are the time she takes to get to the point. This time, it took longer than most. Add in the really show narration, and I did not like this at all. I dew the line at 3 stars because I tend to enjoy many of her books. If it had been my first DS book, I would never read another.

Historia
India Taylor lived in a world of manicured lawns and neatly maintained calendars: a merry-go-round of Little League, piano lessons, and Cape Cod summer vacations. With four wonderful children, India believed in commitment and sacrifice, just as she believed in Doug, the man she married 17 years before. For India, this was the promise she made, the life she had chosen - not the award-winning career as a photojournalist she once had. It was a choice she had never truly regretted. Until she begins to regret it with all her heart.

What Happens??
Revisado: 12-23-23
I loved the characters so much. I could feel their feelings. The hard part about a that the ending was so abrupt. It was like the book police swooped in and stole DS’s pens and ran away. I often wish DS would write some series or epilogue so we could follow the myriad journeys. India and Paul. Paul and Sam. The list goes on. I love those people and admire the way face their paths.

I Liked it so much, I listened twice
Revisado: 08-17-23
While I’m a good California liberal, I spent some years living in Atlanta. I appreciated the the New York/ South Carolina thread, the family tensions and how they played out. I loved the character development. There was someone for everybody. I have started many DS books bot not read all of them to the end. I’m not sure where this one falls on a chronological list, but in Southern Lights, we’re given a very mature presentation. Good people good story. Thanks DS.
