Chaucer's greatest work, written towards the end of the fourteenth century, paints a brilliant picture of medieval life, society and values. The stories range from the romantic, courtly idealism of "The Knight's Tale" to the joyous bawdy of the Miller's; all are told with a freshness and vigor in this modern verse translation that make them a delight to hear.

Here we see Twain on a somewhat personal level. Penniless and having just lost his wife and one of his children, Twain turns to writing about God, Christianity, and the many curious natures of man. This collection was so controversial that his daughter prohibited its publication until 52 years after his death.

To include the text would be a simple enough addition and sorrily needed, since the play as produced is severely abridged.

This is a terrific collection of essays read quite well by Frederick Davidson. The unfortunate part is that the recording while clear is pockmarked all through with skipping. Dreadful really.

Would you try another book from The Great Courses and/or Professor Richard Wolfson?
Not without the visual examples. The professor includes these teaching tools and organized his lectures with plenty of references to the visual examples. The lack of video is an important lesson when considering whether to purchase another series from The Great Courses

His performance was great,but I didn't have the benefit of experiencing the entire thing
