But an unexpected stroke of luck gives him an outside chance at a dukedom - and which Tate sister he weds hardly seems to matter. Married or not, Bianca is determined to protect her family’s prosperous ceramics business, even when Max shows an affinity for it.

Okay but not worth $14
Revisado: 03-20-25
It was thoroughly unremarkable. Character development was decent, but there was nothing to distinguish this book from the many similar books. Okay maybe the Staffordshire pottery setting might make me remember it but otherwise, 2 days from now it will have totally left my memory bank. The actor did a nice job on female voices but her male voices need some work.
I may be overly cheap, but to me, a book for which I spend a $14-15 credit should be one that I’ll want to listen to again in the future. This one should have cost no more than $4.99 on a discount site.

One of my favorite books!
Revisado: 03-19-25
A perfect historical romance. So many books act like dukes were a dime a dozen in British nobility. This one at least appears to reflect the social order of the time, the limitations of women, and the issues of the day. In the midst of historical accuracy we find a flawed hero and heroine that overcome their issues. It’s a delightful melodrama with well written sex scenes. It’s just a perfect story and the best one of this enjoyable series.

Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

Fun read
Revisado: 03-17-25
It was the paranormal version of a harlequin romance. Cute, light, cotton candy for the brain. It never tried to be anything but fluff. As such, it was engaging and easy to listen to for the duration.

Paige Winterbourne was always either too young or too rebellious to succeed her mother as leader of one of the world's most powerful elite organizations - the American Coven of Witches. Now that she is 23 and her mother is dead, the Elders can no longer deny her. But even Paige's wildest antics can't hold a candle to those of her new charge - an orphan who is all too willing to use her budding powers for evil.

Decent story but not one of her best
Revisado: 03-16-25
This was my 4th Kelley Armstrong book…okay but not my favorite.
In the first half of the book the heroine Paige was often impetuous and stupid and I hate a stupid female main character. It felt like a ploy—can’t have the hero and heroine like each other right off the bat so let’s make the heroine fight the hero to the point where she makes one idiotic decision after another. That just felt contrived. Plus I really wanted to slap Savanna for being suchhhhh an obnoxious brat. There were also a lot of loose threads, Why did Lucas show up out of the blue? What was his motivation to twist himself into a pretzel to keep helping Paige in the beginning? What happened to the antique motorcycle he personally restored? Sometimes you get what you pay for and this book was free. Maybe it just needed a better editor to tighten it up. It was fine for a free book but it doesn’t want to make me buy more in this series.

The heroine is annoying
Revisado: 02-21-25
I liked the premise of a dog mixup. I liked the inclusion of dogs and a handicapped brother. However the female character is really annoying for about 3/4 of the book. I really didn’t like her! The reader doesn’t help because her female character voice is obnoxiously nasal. She does much better with the rest of the voices. Plus there were two major coincidences which was one too many, even in silly fictional lands.
Overall it was okay, a little rough—like maybe it was written in a rush. I think it was free so from that standpoint it was solid, I did make it to the end.

Typical Hamish Macbeth story
Revisado: 12-13-24
It was well worth the price (free!). It is a short-ish story. I don’t find these books to be especially great, but they’re comfortable and they bring the highlands to life for someone who will probably never get there.

Enjoyable if not overly original
Revisado: 11-10-24
Fabulous voices and production. The book is decent and enjoyable but it also feels very heavily influenced by Sarah Maas, Brandon Sanderson and the other popular authors and books of this genre. It had well written sex scenes but really unoriginal swearing. It felt jarring to hear phrases like “cliff notes” and soooo many f-bombs. If an author is going to go through the effort of developing a whole new world, put in the time to create some original swear words and phrases in a local dialect. I was also a little disappointed in the scramble to tie up loose ends in the last chapter. In the whole, it was entertaining and the actors were top notch.

Good character development
Revisado: 05-01-24
Obviously romance books can be a little formulaic…but this was a pretty decent book and it was outstanding for one that was free with my Audible membership. Often the free books are free for a reason but this one was entertaining and the characters were developed. A lot of times I have to stop listening but this book kept my attention and I listened until I finished it. Thanks!!!
