Historia
Doctor Titus Conleith emerged from his time as a battlefield surgeon with a mysterious fortune, a lethal secret, and a demon on his back. Ruthlessly intelligent, he was able to lift himself from his beginnings as coal-stained bastard through merciless discipline and inexhaustible skill. Alone by choice, he swore never to open his heart to another, not after Honoria Goode, the heiress who shattered his hopes and then tread upon the shards of his heart with her bejeweled slippers. The beauty with whom he shared his first taste of passion, before she gave her hand to another.

Hints of More to Come
Revisado: 07-21-24
This story is not up to Ma Byrnes’ usual stands, but introduces the Fauves who hint of interesting books in the future. I did not like the ‘duet’ reading. I found the female reader distracting and insipid. Derek Perkins is the perfect reader of both male and female characters. Alone.

Historia
Sir Carlton Morley is famously possessed of extraordinary will, singular focus, and a merciless sense of justice. As a man, he secured his fortune and his preeminence as Scotland Yard's ruthless chief inspector. As a decorated soldier, he was legend for his unflinching trigger finger, his precision in battle, and his imperturbable strength. But as a boy, he was someone else. A twin, a thief, and a murderer, until tragedy reshaped him. Now he stalks the night, in search of redemption and retribution, vowing to never give into temptation, as it's just another form of weakness.

The continuation of Carlton Morley’s story is welcome. The familiar characters of Dorian, Argent, Fara, Millie, et al. is a delight. I look forward to seeing them all again as the new series continues. Derek Perkins is the perfect reader.

There's nothing Ruth Galloway hates more than amateur archaeologists, but when a group of them stumble upon Bronze Age artifacts alongside a dead body, she finds herself thrust into their midst - and into the crosshairs of a string of murders circling ever closer.

A Wonderful Story
Revisado: 08-27-23
The saga of Dr Galloway and all the beautifully drawn running characters continues and delivers a good mystery as well as an exploration of human connections and frailties. Nelson is such an honorable and ethical person, a devoted family man as well as a skilled police officer. Ruth and Kate are the anchors of the story with Judy and Cathbad as important supports. The relationships are a mixture of complements and contrasts. I love these books and will be sorry when the series finishes.

Historia
Everything has changed for Ruth Galloway. She has a new job, home, and partner, and she is no longer North Norfolk police’s resident forensic archaeologist. That is, until convicted murderer Ivor March offers to make DCI Nelson a deal. Nelson was always sure that March killed more women than he was charged with. Now March confirms this and offers to show Nelson where the other bodies are buried - but only if Ruth will do the digging. Curious, but wary, Ruth agrees.

Historia
It’s not every day that you’re summoned to the Italian countryside on business, so when archaeologist Angelo Morelli asks for Ruth Galloway’s help identifying bones found in the tiny hilltop town of Fontana Liri, she jumps at the chance to go, bringing her daughter along with her for a working vacation. Upon arriving, she begins to hear murmurs of Fontana Liri’s strong resistance movement during World War II and senses the townspeople are dancing around a deeply buried secret. But how could that be connected to the ancient remains she’s been studying?

Gripping Tale
Revisado: 08-14-23
Elly Griffith has written another wonderful novel. We learn a little about rural Italy, World War II, the Romans, and the complexity of policing no matter the location. The ongoing characters feel like family and I look forward to the next books.

Historia
It is Halloween night, and the local museum in King's Lynn is preparing for an unusual event - the opening of a coffin containing the bones of a medieval bishop. But when Ruth Galloway arrives to supervise, she finds the museum's curator lying dead beside the coffin. It is only a matter of time before she and DI Nelson cross paths once more, as he is called in to investigate. Soon the museum's wealthy owner lies dead in his stables, too. These two deaths could be from natural causes - but Nelson isn't convinced.

This book has everything, several mysteries, complex relationships, continuing characters, no easy answers. Dr Ruth Galloway is the focal point and a marvelously believable human protagonist with whom you can empathize. I love this series.

Historia
Norfolk is experiencing a July heat wave when a construction crew unearths a macabre discovery - a buried World War II plane with the pilot still inside. Forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway quickly realizes that the skeleton couldn't possibly be the pilot, and DNA tests identify the man as Fred Blackstock, a local aristocrat who had been reported dead at sea. When the remaining members of the Blackstock family learn about the discovery, they seem strangely frightened by the news.

Historia
Forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway has excavated a body from the grounds of Norwich Castle, a forbidding edifice that was once a prison. She believes the body may be that of infamous Victorian murderess Jemima Green. Called Mother Hook for her claw-like hand, Jemima was hanged in 1867 for the murder of five children in her care. DCI Harry Nelson has no time for long-dead killers. Immersed in the case of three infants found dead, one after the other, in their King’s Lynn home, he’s convinced that a family member is responsible, though others on his team think differently.

I’ve listened to several Emma’s and I like Mary Jane Well’s’ narration the best. She captures the personalities perfectly particularly the archness of Mrs Elton and she affectionately performs the voluble Miss Bates.
