Historia
The sun is bloated, diseased, dying perhaps. Beneath its baneful light, Shadrapar, last of all cities, harbours fewer than 100,000 human souls. Built on the ruins of countless civilisations, Shadrapar is a museum, a midden, an asylum, a prison on a world that is ever more alien to humanity. Bearing witness to the desperate struggle for existence between life old and new is Stefan Advani: rebel, outlaw, prisoner, survivor.

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Brilliantly original, gripping, and often laugh out loud funny.

Surprisingly great. I don’t normally read or listen to anything ‘necro,’ And the grand humor in this book takes a while to become clear. But soon enough I was hooked and loving it — Highly recommended!

Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Historia
In the holy city of Tova, the winter solstice is usually a time for celebration and renewal, but this year it coincides with a solar eclipse, a rare celestial even proscribed by the Sun Priest as an unbalancing of the world. Meanwhile, a ship launches from a distant city bound for Tova and set to arrive on the solstice. The captain of the ship, Xiala, is a disgraced Teek whose song can calm the waters around her as easily as it can warp a man’s mind. Her ship carries one passenger.

Genius. Real.
Revisado: 07-02-22
Friends have spoken highly about this audiobook but for some reason I was reluctant to engage with it. And then I finally had to take a long road trip, and I decided to try it out. It’s instantly engaging, utterly genius, and devastating and real. It’s also unbelievably funny and uplifting, and life-affirming. Highly highly highly recommended.

Excellent though a bit grueling as an audiobook
Revisado: 06-12-22
My 18year old son read this and liked it. I enjoyed the audiobook but when I played a little bit of for my son he said ‘That reader is too dour!’ which is what I’d been thinking. Still, I had a long drive, so listened on. All in all, I enjoyed this work, both written and read, and I’ll never know how this book would’ve sounded in my head had I just read it to myself. I suspect a bit different. Maybe a bit zestier, a bit more droll, a bit dryer, angrier, amused, depressed, etc. As is, this reader nailed this book’s many dour moments but I sense it’s a better and bigger book than that overall.

Through his imagined journals of Adam and Eve, Mark Twain wrote what has been called “one of the great love stories of all time.” Mandy Patinkin and Betty Buckley bring Adam and Eve to life, capturing the expected humor as well as the tender eloquence of Twain’s most personal, heartfelt writing. In one of his last recordings, Walter Cronkite provides an illuminating commentary on how the author came to reinterpret the Genesis story.

Worth it for the performances too
Revisado: 03-06-22
A hilarious bit of writing from one of the greatest American writers, performed wonderfully. And because it needs said: Expectations for men and women were different when this was written. In its day I imagine this was incredibly progressive. Even now it is full of wisdom and keen perception. Well worth the time and money.
