Another Excellent Barry Eisler Book!

This was an excellent read! It was the long anticipated origin story of the beloved Dox character in Eisler’s novels, and it didn’t disappoint. Highly recommended!

I highly enjoyed this book. I had heard Douglas Abrams on the Rich roll podcast several years ago, and decided to buy it. I then put it on my virtual bookshelf for about three years before listening to it! when I finally got around to starting it, I thought maybe it wasn't going to be very good. but after about 10 minutes into the book, I realized it is fantastic. The dalai lama and Desmond Tutu are very close friends, and you really feel the love when you listen to their conversations together. lots of excellent advice for spiritual growth in this book, no matter what religious background you have. highly recommended!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, definitely. It's classic Stephen King. The way he builds his characters' stories really makes you feel like you know these people. He finds traits in them that we all can relate to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Carrie?

I'm torn between Carrie's revenge, because of how well King paints every detail, or the harsh, brutal reality of Carrie's embarrassment in the beginning of the book.

Which scene was your favorite?

Carrie's "reflection" on what she did at the high school prom while she was seated outside.

If you could take any character from Carrie out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I don't know about dinner, but I would very much like to hug Carrie and tell her that she is not a pig!

Any additional comments?

What struck me about this book is that I listened to it just after the horrible aftermath of the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida. It reminded me of just how difficult high school can be, socially speaking. I will never excuse murder, but I also don't think bullying should get any kind of a pass as well. Carrie was brutally bullied, and King goes into such detail that I was almost in tears for her. Such a well done book!

I've listened to one other Charles Dickens novel before. This one held the standard for sure.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

All were quite good

Did Gather ‘Round the Sound inspire you to do anything?

No, but it helped put me in the holiday spirit

Excellent on all levels!

I was curious to listen to this book after hearing Vinnie on a podcast with Rich Roll. I thought it would be decent, but to my great surprise, it was fabulous! Vinnie is such an interesting person, nevertheless a well-educated fitness Guru for over 30 years. He also has one of the best senses of humor out there!! I picked up many important approaches to my own fitness regimen, and it was also very eye-opening to the traps / snake oil products that exist in the fitness world. I highly recommend this book to everyone! Vinnie reading the book himself really gave it an extra special touch.

A great performance of a classic!

Would you listen to The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde again? Why?

Yes I would. Richard Armitage is absolutely superb!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mr. Hyde. Armitage's interpretation is way better than I expected. He really delivered an excellent performance.

What does Richard Armitage bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brought such a well defined contrast between the voices of all the characters. It was amazing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The Jekyll/Hyde transformation. Simply brilliant.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommended. As a story, I wish RLS would have given it a bit more detail as to what exactly caused the transformation, and I would have liked to see a little more conclusive ending. But all in all, it was great.

Good, but not great...

Yes

Yes. There are many good things about their writing/stories. Hopefully they will get better with each new book.

Which character – as performed by Sam Bungey and Jennifer Forde – was your favorite?

The main "bad guy" was a good central character.

Could you see West Cork being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes, but they would need to add a lot more interesting twists to make it possible. For TV, it would make for a decent 1 hour unsolved crime documentary.

Any additional comments?

I simply felt that the story dragged at times. I had hoped for more twists. The overall story could have been about 2 hours tops. Several hours of the story simply didn't go anywhere, in my humble opinion.

Great introduction to eating plant based!

What made the experience of listening to The Whole Foods Diet the most enjoyable?

It's a very thorough, well written book. It doesn't get too complicated, yet it's very informative and interesting.

What did you like best about this story?

The different well know plant based diet doctors/nutritionists are all reviewed very well in this book. It's interesting to see/listen to the subtle differences in their approaches to nutrition.

Have you listened to any of Dan Woren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I haven't, this is the first one. He does a great job.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Same as the title: The Whole Foods Diet

Super great book for people who are interested in trying out a plant based eating style.

Another tough, dark, FANTASTIC novel by Eisler

What did you love best about The Night Trade?

It helped finish off some the unfinished "business" from the last novel.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Night Trade?

The fight scenes are excellent as always. The interaction of Dox and Livia was a great idea of Eisler's. The two work together really well.

What does Barry Eisler bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

So much! Eisler's reading of his novels is excellent. His voicing of all the different characters is extremely good. It truly brings the characters to life in a way my own imagination couldn't do!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Definitely tears. Livia's character is one of constant inner sadness. When she "talks" with her younger sister, it's absolutely heart breaking.

I recommend ALL of Barry Eisler's books. I've never been disappointed by one of them!!!

Would you listen to Fearless again? Why?

Absolutely. It's an incredibly inspiring book.

What did you like best about this story?

What I loved most is how well the reader gets to know Adam Brown. By the end, it's like you've known him your whole life.

What does Paul Michael bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice has great emotion during the most difficult parts of the book. He really emphasized the scriptures very well.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The same as the title - Fearless

Any additional comments?

The religious inspiration in this book is unlike anything I've read before. Everyone should learn the story of Adam Brown.
