Historia
Set in the tumultuous year of 1968 in southern Virginia, a racially-charged murder case sets a duo of white and Black lawyers against a deeply unfair system as they work to defend their wrongfully-accused Black defendants in this courtroom drama from #1 New York Times bestselling author David Baldacci.

Decent courtroom drama
Revisado: 03-22-25
Liked the characters, disliked the narration. The ensemble narration was OK, I guess, but all the women sounded like little girls.
The events leading to the courtroom conclusion were just too convenient.
Too bad about the tragic ending.

Historia
Now recuperated after the violent incident that cost him his arm - and nearly his life - DCS Serrailler has returned to work, though he prefers to spend his spare time sketching the medieval angels being restored on the cathedral roof. With crime rates down, Lafferton has been quiet, until one night when two men open their front door to a distressing scene. Serrailler makes a serious error of judgment when handling the incident, and the stress of this, combined with the ongoing trauma of losing his arm, takes its toll.

One complaint
Revisado: 12-07-24
I get frustrated with authors who can't keep track of details about their own characters. In one book Simon is 6'4". In another he's 6'2". In yet another he's 6'3".

What?? No more Jimmy? No more Wiiowm
Revisado: 01-19-24
How can Wildfire be the last book? I wish we were given a little more certainty about their relationship.
Jimmy deserves some happiness.
Not the greatest plot in series; Martha and Charlie were a weak element.
Not that fond of Blyth as narrator--he barely tries to give the characters their own voices.
Overall a great series.

Homicide Detective Max Rupert never fully accepted his wife's death, even when he believed that a reckless hit and run driver was the cause. But when he learns that in fact she was murdered, he devotes himself to hunting down her killers. Most of his life he had thought of himself as a decent man. But now he's so consumed with thoughts of retribution that he questions whether he will take that last step and enact the vengeance he longs for.

I enjoyed every wrenching moment of it.
it could have been better with another narrator; Bray is not a favorite of mine.
Everything is delivered in an intense monotone. Anna and Nikki have some modulation but sound the same as the men.

Historia
By the time playwright and actor Shawn Frost had won two Tony Awards by his late 20s, he was seen as a theater prodigy—a meteoric rise that the performing arts community had not witnessed in almost a hundred years. His work? Shakespearean in scope, character, and popularity—boundless and beautiful. His own character? Flawed. And in a place like New York City, where failings get magnified, Shawn Frost finds that, even from the heights of artistic sublimity, no one is insulated from the demons that have caused the best of entertainers to fall from grace.

Revisado: 09-12-23
I liked the story; I kept getting surprised.
Brick was perfect for this book, his nuanced delivery upped the quality of the writing. I disagree that you can't do that, and also distinguish between the characters. I know other narrators who can.

I don't know what I thought of the story
Revisado: 08-03-23
because after less than an hour I knew I couldn't listen to 10.5 more hours of the terrible awful narration.
In each sentence the volume went up and down so much that I couldn't pay attention to the story.
While I have some issues with Scott Brick and his unwillingness to differentiate between characters, especially women, he's still one of my favorite narrators.
So I'm skipping to next in series.

Mediocre plot
Revisado: 04-23-23
So far each book ends with no resolution. This was no exception. To find out what happens in the saga of "The Circle" one must read the next book. Will the next book resolve anything? Will DCI Ryan grow another inch?
Will Jonathan Keeble stop making Frank sound like he's talking through a mouthful of phlegm?
