After listening to Killjoy, the sixth story in the Jax Diamond series, I’m firmly convinced I need to go back and start reading or listening to this series from the first book to that last. Once again, I listened to this book out of order, but other than a couple of small items Killjoy worked well as a standalone story.

I enjoyed the premise of this story more than the others I’ve listened to before. Who could pass up murders in a theater that may or may not be haunted by the ghost of a famous actress.

If you enjoy period detective stories set in a simpler time, than you really need to give this series a look. The audiobook was narrated with virtual voice. I’ve only listened to two series that worked well with the virtual voice narration, and Jax Diamond is one of the two.

I’ve come to rely on Vincent Zandri to provide entertaining noir stories that are unpredictable. When I began listening to this story, I had an idea of where it was going based on the title. That idea lasted for a little less than the first chapter. From that moment on I was in uncharted waters, so to speak.

This story had me laughing in several places, in a few others I was wondering how the characters would extract themselves from their current predicament, and in one instance I was almost in tears. The sad kind of tears I tell ya.

If you are looking for an entertaining tale, grab a copy, heck, grab a copy of the audiobook and let virtual voice take you on a wild ride through the sky.

I remember seeing Dorothy Kilgallen on What’s My line when I was a kid, however this book opened my eyes to who she was and how much of an impact she had on history in the sixties.

Mark Shaw does an excellent job of creating an entertaining yet full bodied biography of a tenacious woman and her strengths and weaknesses. Not to mention her involvement with the Kennedys and a whole host of entertainers and members of the US Government.

After listing to this book, I’m looking forward to listening to more of Mr. Shaw’s work on stories related to Dorothy and the Kennedy brothers. This book was my introduction to Gabra Zackman’s narration. I’m sure it won’t be my last experience listening to her exceptional narration skills.

The Quantum Chain, book four in the Joseph Bridgman series, left me conflicted. This being the last book in the series, this story tied up numerous loose ends from the three previous books and when out in a way I hadn’t anticipated. But my conflict comes with the series ending, I was hoping to have more adventures with Joe.

I have to say I enjoyed each of the books in this series, but The Quantum Chain turned out to be my favorite of the four, due in no small part to it tying up all the questions I had throughout the series. Like the first three books, I listened to Ray Porter narrate this book and once again found myself mesmerized as he delivered the story and brought each character to life.

When I finished listening to the first two books in this series, I knew whatever came next would be very good, but I didn’t anticipate how good The Observer Effect would be. Not only is this book filled with time-travel action, the addition of the Continuum and Gabrielle Green take the story and series to a new height.

Joe and Gabrielle make an excellent partnership. They play off on each other’s strengths all the while being so different from each other it seems impossible they could ever work together.

Listening to Ray Porter’s narration of the Joe Bridgman books has rekindled my interest in the time-travel genre.

The shadows of London book two in the Joseph Bridgeman series took this reader on a visual tour of London in the 1960s, not just the London seen by the world, but the dark seamy underbelly of the London criminal scene.
Along with Joe’s travel back in time, his stepping into the life of Joe Bridgeman of his current time makes for many interesting situations. How Joe works to fit into his new life keeps the story moving.
Once again, I listened to the audiobook narrated by Ray Porter. Mr. Porter’s narration skills bring this story to life through his delivery and character voices.

Time travel books were my focus a few years back, I read or listened to all I could find. Recently I stumbled across Nick Jones’ Joseph Bridgman series. After I finished listening to And Then She Vanished, I immediately started listening to The Shadows of London, the second book in the series.
The premise of this series and the characters are what kept me totally engaged in listening. Joe Bridgeman is such a relatable character; I could see myself and several people I know in him in many ways. His abilities and the way he used them had me cheering and jeering several times throughout the story.
While Nick Jones put together an entertaining story, the choice of Ray Porter to narrate his story was key in creating a highly entertaining audiobook.

I’ve read or listened to the seven books of the Tin Star series and enjoyed each of the books. Trials was filled with more dramatic content than the normal action type content of its predecessors. The redeeming feature for me in this story was the introduction of Storm and the relationship of Storm and Jace.

This is not to say there isn’t any action in the story, because there are several instances of action that play an important part in the overall story. For me I would have loved more action and a bit less interpersonal drama.

Overall, Trials is an enjoyable story, and with Joyce Oben’s excellent narration and her character voices it is very entertaining.

Listening to the audiobook of Cyber Storm was my introduction to the story telling of Matthew Mather. While this story was written eleven years ago, the fundamental premise of the book is much more possible today than when Mr. Mather authored the book. With some of the current events a Cyber Storm wouldn’t be surprising.

Along with a believable apocalypse, Cyber Storm has a cast of characters who become fully developed as the story progresses. Several of the characters were easy to like and identify with, while there were a few who were the opposite from their first introduction. One exuded his smarmy nature every time he showed up in each scene.

Luckily, I have the next two audiobooks in the World War C series in my library, so they are next up on my listening schedule. Tom Taylorson does an excellent job of bringing this story to life and providing unique voices for each of the characters.

Framed, the second of the Jax Diamond Mysteries, is the second book I’ve read or listened to by Gail Meath. What’s interesting, I never read or listened to the first book in the series, so It’s high time I take care of that omission now that I’ve listened to books two & three.

This series is a hybrid between cozy stories and detective pulp thrillers of the 40’s. Like Deuce, I was fully entertained by this story and the predicament Jax and Tim found themselves in, of course Ace and Laura play a key part in solving the case.

If you enjoy detective stories with a flavor of old-time storytelling, set in the prohibition era, you should give the Jax Diamond series a shot. – I would recommend, unlike me, starting with Songbird, book one.

I listened to the audiobook of Framed, narrated by virtual voice. While virtual voices can be hit-or-miss in stores, the voice used in this series makes it feel like I’ve sat down to listen to an old radio serial.
