beautifully written

it was necessary for 2 narrators to adequately present this story which takes place in 2 time periods. They were both exquisite in their presentations.

Historia
Carrie Morgan ran from Woodsmoke ten years ago, and the decision has haunted her ever since. Spending a decade painting and drifting around Europe, she tries to forget her family’s legacy and the friends she left behind. But the Morgan women have always been able to harness the power of the mountains surrounding the town, and their spells—and curses—are sewn into the soil. The mountains, they say, never forget. Sure enough, when Carrie’s grandmother dies and leaves behind her dilapidated cottage, she returns to renovate—certain she will only be there for one winter.

OUTSTANDING!
Revisado: 10-30-24
oh, and one more point... the summary says this is set in Cornwall and with the narrators accent you can totally believe it but what i thought is, with a different reader, the story could easily have been set in the US Appalachian Mountains and been equally amazing.

Historia
I never thought in a million years that the bones would choose me. The power, the magic, was supposed to go to someone else in the family. I was counting on it. But now my Grammy Ruby is gone, and here the bones sit on my kitchen table. I thought bitter relatives would be my biggest problem. But I’ve barely had time to find a familiar before trouble comes a-knocking. The kind that possesses smoldering green eyes and a smile that can turn any woman dumb. His name is Rogan Kendrick, and he’s certain that someone is hunting down and taking my kind. According to him, I’m next.

after paying for this book and enjoying it the end comes like a commercial break. But the bad news is, I have to BUY the rest of the books to get to the conclusion. Nope. Not going to do it.

graphic sex
Revisado: 08-28-24
I enjoyed this book at the beginning and sometimes I even laughed out loud but by the time it got to repeated graphic, kinky sex, it seemed like the plot was lost. I quit listening at chapter 20. wish I could have gotten a refund.

I. JUST. CAN'T.
I cannot tell you how much this story has rocked my world. I swear, it's now on my top 5 EVER! my husband served in Vietnam. he brought home a little plastic photo album. TO THIS DAY, it still smells like Vietnam. The story grabbed and held. it was soooo well researched. I remember all of the historical references. Every time a song was mentioned, I immediately started singing it in my head. The narrator could nit have been better. Soooo worth the price.

So much went wrong!
Revisado: 05-31-24
I love historical pieces especially with strong, female protagonists. However, the narrator has a weird cadence. She pauses places that are not normally paused and stresses words which are not normally stressed. AND, production really dropped the ball when a baby came into the recording studio and a woman called her away. Because of these things, I'm not getting the sequel.

I bought this book because I love everything this reader does.
Revisado: 05-25-24
The title is a bit deceptive. The blurb didn't interest me much BUT I love this reader and bought the book based on that. once I got into the story, I really liked it. The historical significance was offers a new way of thinking of the Salem stories. I will be looking for more stories from this author.

books 1-4 were great,, but in this one., the narrator changed the voices of the characters so much, and they were so bad (why does Ayla suddenly sound like a Russian spy?) I quit before the 1st chapter was over.

Historia
Ironcross Castle was called cursed by the Highlanders. Its most recent lairds had perished in accidents, falls, or fires. The newest owner, Gavin Kerr, did not fear death. It was feeling that he dreaded - the pain of betrayal and loss. Now, he arrived at the castle to hear of hauntings and cults and to be drawn to the portrait of beautiful Joanna MacInnes, who died here amid a furnace of flame. And looking at her, Gavin desired her, feeling an impossible longing to take her in his arms.

BEST OF THE SERIES
Revisado: 04-24-21
I flew through the entire series an a matter of weeks. The previous one seemed a bit weak so I considered stopping, by my OCD made me finish the series. Boy am I glad I did. This one was really good. I loved the female-priestess-womens-ritual spin. This is the last of the series but I'm going to continue with this author and jump into the next.
