Shatner is entertaining as always
Revisado: 12-14-24
As someone who grew up with Star Trek, it was very interesting to hear all the stories of how the show was created originally and what happened during those first three years of production. And Shatner delivers it with aplomb.

Historia
The Earth teems with sights and textures, sounds and vibrations, smells and tastes, electric and magnetic fields. But every kind of animal, including humans, is enclosed within its own unique sensory bubble, perceiving but a tiny sliver of our immense world. In An Immense World, Ed Yong coaxes us beyond the confines of our own senses, allowing us to perceive the skeins of scent, waves of electromagnetism, and pulses of pressure that surround us.

Historia
Everything we now know about the universe - from the behavior of quarks to the birth of galaxies - has come from people who've been willing to ponder the unanswerable. And with the advent of modern science, great minds have turned to testing and experimentation rather than mere thought as a way of grappling with some of the universe's most vexing dilemmas. So what is our latest picture of some of the most inexplicable features of the universe? What still remains to be uncovered and explored by today's scientists?

Mind blowing
Revisado: 11-12-24
Neil gives the best lectures/talks. I mean the best. This is like having him right there with you giving you a personal lecture. He is fascinating and he explores mind blowing subject matter. He’s entertaining and has a great sense of humor. I just love him. He is a national treasure.

Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

A little difficult to follow
Revisado: 10-10-24
I always love Neil and I’m fascinated by what he has to say. The format of this book however probably would have been easier to follow in print form as opposed to audible form. I think I finally settled in and got the hang of it about halfway through. Lots of jumping around. But the content as always is superb.

Jennifer Thompson was raped at knifepoint by a man who broke into her apartment while she slept. She was able to escape and eventually identified Ronald Cotton as her attacker. Ronald insisted that she was mistaken - but Jennifer's positive identification was the compelling evidence that put him behind bars. After 11 years, Ronald was allowed to take a DNA test that proved his innocence. He was released after serving more than a decade in prison for a crime he never committed.

Wow what a story
Revisado: 08-05-24
Early in the book, it was incredibly hard to listen to the description of the rape by Jennifer. Very upsetting. However, if you can hang through that, it’s an incredible story of a human journey through anger and hatred, discovery, and redemption. It leaves you with much food for thought.

Historia
In this unflinching exploration of corruption in America, Chayes exposes how corruption has thrived within our borders - from the titans of America's Gilded Age (Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, et al.) to the collapse of the stock market in 1929, the Great Depression, and FDR's New Deal; from Joe Kennedy's years of banking, bootlegging, machine politics, and pursuit of infinite wealth to the deregulation of the Reagan Revolution - undermining this nation's proud middle class and union members.

Revealing the acceptance of corruption in America
Revisado: 04-16-24
This book should be required reading for every American citizen. It’s incredibly well researched. It’s incredibly well organized. So many things that have bothered me over the years about the way money controls the politics and life in this country— she explains how all these things tie together and how the networks operate. It’s full of those a-ha moments. And the best part is that in the last chapter, she gives hope by offering solutions that we can all participate in. It is so necessary to offer those solutions because the book overall is very intense and at times distressing. It also must be recognized that this woman is a true expert, who has worked all over the world and in multiple administrations. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
Birdie Binkowitz is just a little bitter. As a young actress, she was the toast of Hollywood, definitely destined for greatness. Then the dragons had to rise up from their thousand-year slumber, take over Earth and ruin everything. Twenty years later, Birdie is living her worst life in her hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, working at her father's Seed and Feed (and Bagels). Then, a mysterious dragon appears in front of the store seeking her help. He’s got a bone to pick with his fellow dragons–and he wants to hit them where it hurts.

It was fun
Revisado: 03-09-24
Of the several Alexander Kane books that I have read this was my least favorite. I really loved his other books. This one was just a little too goofy, but still fun. The southern accents were just a little over the top, but maybe that’s a function of the narrator, and not so much the story. Maybe it’s just because I’ve never been into dragon mythology. I do love his sci-fi books

Historia
Hallowe'en 1938. A year after a mysterious meteorite lit up the skies of New York State, Martian invaders laid waste to the nation. At least, according to soon-to-be infamous Orson Welles they did. But what if some of the panicked listeners to the legendary War of the Worlds broadcast weren't just imagining things? Attempting to deliver Charley to her rendezvous in Singapore in 1930, the Doctor overshoots a little, arriving in Manhattan just in time to find a dead private detective.

Great premise
Revisado: 02-18-24
I love the premise of setting the story during the 1938 radio broadcast of the War of the Worlds with Orson Welles. But some of the mobster gangster stuff just got a little silly. Which is too bad because it could’ve been a five star story. But it was still fun.
